After a jaw-dropping fall which led to Sunday’s Perth Cup being deemed a no-race, jockeys Peter Knuckey and Jordan Turner were OK.

The start of the 2023 Perth Cup was met with a massive roar from the big crowd of over 10,000 on hand at Ascot, but just seconds into the Group 2 feature worth $500,000, that collective energy quickly turned to concern.

Inside only the first furlong in the 2400m stayers race, Chili Is Hot and Dom To Shoot were involved in a collision, which led to both horses falling.

The clerks of the course then entered the track and it was deemed a no-race.

Reports emerged that respective riders Knuckey and Turner were OK.

“The good news is the jockeys are OK. Jordy Turner bounced up onto his feet immediately and went straight back to the mounting yard,” commentator Brittany Taylor said.

“Peter Knuckey stayed with Chili Is Hot, and we saw Dom To Shoot continue to run with the field.”

Taylor added the Perth Cup was likely to be re-run next Saturday.
