Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted January 5, 2023 Journalists Share Posted January 5, 2023 What Sandown Races Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171 When Saturday, January 7, 2023 First Race 12:35pm AEDT Visit Ladbrokes The first Saturday metropolitan meeting of 2023 in Victoria heads to the Hillside track at Sandown where a competitive nine-race card is set down for judgement. Despite there being no black-type races on Saturday, their still looks to be a few progressive runners to keep an eye on such as Detonator Jack (R2) and Inundation (R5) on their way to bigger things in the early autumn. We’ll be racing on a Good 4 judging by the forecast, whilst the rail comes out 6m the entire circuit for the meeting commencing at 12:35pm AEDT. Best Bet at Sandown: My Yankee Girl The John Salanitri-trained My Yankee Girl was in the middle of a controversial protest when dead-heating with Invincible Caviar at Flemington where she was relegated to second following a breach of the whip rule. The four-year-old mare deadset flashed home to share the honours (albeit under controversial circumstances) but a repeat of that turn of foot that saw her finish alongside the smart Invincible Caviar, should be more than good enough for a field like this. She loses nothing with Jamie Kah gaining the steer and with a front runner likes He’s Exceptional set to make this a genuinely run event, the race looks perfectly set up for My Yankee Girl to flash down the centre of the track and bring up a deserved win. Best Bet Race 3 – #4 My Yankee Girl (5) 4yo Mare | T: John Salanitri | J: Jamie Kah (59.5kg) $3.40 with Bet365 Next Best at Sandown: Wahine Toa Wahine Toa was well backed last time out at Moonee Valley on December 24 and rewarded those who backed her with a dominant 2.75 length victory. The result was a second win from three starts this time in and in a similar race, where she only goes up 1kg following Matt Cartwright’s claim, she clearly looks to be one of the better bets of the day. The Dalakhani mare looks almost certain to gain a perfect run in transit from barrier two on the heels of the leaders. She will only need luck at a crucial stage in the home straight and if a gap appears, as she showed last time out, Wahine Toa has a nice sprint and should prove too good once again. Next Best Race 8 – #14 Wahine Toa (2) 6yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Matt Cartwright (a1.5) (55kg) $4.40 with Ladbrokes Best Value at Sandown: Whatafox Ciaron Maher & David Eustace are set to bring Whatafox back to the 1600m at Sandown on Saturday, a trip she seemingly relishes despite not notching up a win from five starts. The four-year-old mare has placed four times at the trip, which includes three seconds and considering she is placed at Group 2 and Listed level, we know she has the class to win a race like this. From barrier 12, we expect Matt Cartwright will have the Foxwedge mare positioned midfield with cover. Despite no doubt wanting a bit of a softer track, we simply cannot let Whatafox go around without some of our hard-earned on with $12 available with online bookmakers. Best Value Race 4 – #5 Whatafox (12) 4yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Matt Cartwright (a1.5) (59.5kg) $12 with Neds Saturday quaddie tips for Sandown races Sandown quadrella selections Saturday, January 7, 2023 5-6-7-11-12 3-7-8 13-14 1-9-10 Investment: $90 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
