Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted January 5, 2023 Journalists Share Posted January 5, 2023 What Rosehill Races Where Rosehill Gardens – James Ruse Dr, Rosehill NSW 2142 When Saturday, January 7, 2023 First Race 12:20pm AEDT Visit Ladbrokes Racing heads to Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday afternoon for a massive 10-race program set down for decision. It’s the first time we’ve seen racing at Rosehill in the New Year as the $160,000 January Cup (2000m) at Listed level is the feature event on this blockbuster card. The forecast doesn’t look great for Sydney siders as the rain looks to be on the way leading into race-day with the track currently listed in the Soft 7 range and could worsen on Saturday. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit and we think it’ll be no disadvantage to settle on speed throughout the meeting. The first race is scheduled to get us underway at 12:20pm AEDT. January Cup Tip: Shes’s The Gift It’s a wide-open edition of the January Cup and the market tends to agree as you’re getting great price with online bookmakers for just about any runner. With that said we’re happy to look at an each-way prospect with the Chris Waller-trained mare, She’s The Gift finding our top spot in this 2000m feature event on the program. She comes here in terrific order with four strong performances, the latest being at Gosford on December 28 in the Belle Of The Turf where she was forced to take a sit midfield and hitting the line strongly against her own racing pattern, as she’s been a noted go-forward galloper in her races. It showed a nice versatility from this daughter of Power we think punters wanted to see despite going down by 2.7 lengths on that occasion. She looks to the 2000m for the first time in her career and it shouldn’t be an issue, in particular due to the wet condition likely for Saturday, which she should relish regardless of a tricky barrier to overcome. Robbie Dolan takes the reins here on She’s The Gift and provided he can slot in somewhere with cover throughout the trip, there should be enough pace on for this mare to find career win number nine at each-way odds. January Cup Race 7 – #9 She’s The Gift (13) 5yo Mare | T: Chris Waller | J: Robbie Dolan (53kg) $11 with Bet365 Best Bet: Passeggiata Race three is where you’ll find our best bet of the afternoon with the Bjorn Baker-trained filly, Passeggiata looking for back-to-back wins. Her debut win at Gosford on December 22 was breathtaking after leading them up and kicking clear of her rivals to score with relative ease going to post winning by 3.5 lengths. It was a demolition job and while it was against her own age group it was an outstanding win to the eye and also on the clock to boot. She looks very progressive and the stable must obviously have a big opinion of this galloper by Winning Rupert as they have immediately elected to step into BM72 level against the older horses on Saturday. She trialled just as good on soft conditions at the trials as a two-year-old as she has at three, so the deteriorating conditions shouldn’t be an issue for Passeggiata here. Rachel King takes the reins again and with the feather-weight will dictate to her rivals as she did last time and hopefully salute again. Best Bet Race 3 – #11 Passeggiata (5) 3yo FIlly | T: Bjorn Baker | J: Rachel King (52kg) $2.50 with Betfair Next Best: Wineglass Bay We’re thinking Nash Rawiller has a strong book of rides on Saturday with James McDonald up in Queensland for the Magic Millions Prelude weekend, and Wineglass Bay is no exception in the second race at Rosehill. This European import makes his Australian debut for Chris Waller and profiles nicely to open his campaign with a win in his BM72 over the 1500m. He’s been to the trials since arriving and it was an indicator he’s travelled well after running into fourth behind Zoumon at Rosehill on December 29 where he was held together and only asked for a minor effort in the 1000m jump out. This son of New Bay has some nice form to boot with runs behind Group quality runners like Israr and Bay Of Honour to name a few. The clear danger here is Green Shadows, however, he’s burnt us too many times to preparation, and based on what we’ve seen from Wineglass Bay, we’re happy to side with him at the better price. Next Best Race 2 – #8 Wineglass Bay (3) 4yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: Nash Rawiller (56kg) $4.80 with Ladbrokes Best Value: Born With Wings We’re sticking to the theme of European imports, as the first-up galloper for Peter and Paul Snowden. Born With Wings, is our best each-way play of the afternoon for Rosehill on Saturday. This son of Nathaniel comes across from Europe with strong form, especially on wet decks in France, with performances reaching the heights of Listed level contests as a three-year-old. He’s had just the one trial since arriving from France and it reads poorly in the form-book running 10 of 10 at Randwick on December 14, however, this is very deceiving. They elected to head to the rear and as they approached the 100m marker, Born With Wings started to wind up beautifully and would’ve been finishing a lot closer in the trial if they had another 100m to run. He’s a risk on the each-way against the short-priced favourite Estadio Mestalla, however, with them both drawn poorly, we think Sam Clipperton can get the back of the favourite here, and if he does, we’ll get a great sight for our money at a nice price. Best Value Race 8 – #4 Born With Wings (13) 4yo Gelding | T: Peter & Paul Snowden | J: Sam Clipperton (58kg) $11 with Neds Saturday quaddie tips for Rosehill races Rosehill quadrella selections Saturday, January 7, 2023 5-9-10-11-12 2-3-4 1-4-6-11-15 1-7-9 Investment: $225 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
