Every winner of the Inglis Millennium has come into the race at least second-up from a spell, with only Prime Star (2020) saluting when third-up. Trained in South Australia by Tony & Calvin McEvoy, the two-year-old daughter of Xtravagant was heavily backed, firming from $13 into $7 on the back of a narrow maiden win at Geelong on debut. The filly led throughout to win a trial at Randwick over 734m on January 24, which appeared to tip her over perfectly for the restricted sales race. Having landed in a beautiful spot behind the leaders, jockey Chad Schofield made a line of three at the 300m, before racing away from her rivals at the 100m mark. 2021: Profiteer destroys rivals Earlier in the week, Newgate announced they had bought into Profiteer, who started a short-priced favourite in the Millennium, and the pressure was on for the Victorian colt to perform. He did so in breathtaking fashion, showing sustained speed to control The Inglis Millennium in 2021 and rocket clear to score by 5.25 lengths. 2020: Marquand capitalises on Prime opportunity The race morning scratching of odds-on favourite Cellsabeel paved the way for in-form jockey Tom Marquand to land his biggest payday, winning the $2 million Inglis Millennium aboard Prime Star. The 1100-metre feature was added to the Wednesday program at Warwick Farm after its scheduled Saturday time slot was washed out. The date change prompted the scratching of Golden Slipper favourite and major drawcard Cellsabeel, leaving the Richard and Michael Freedman-trained Prime Star to shine. There was drama pre-race with Fayerra and Slice Of Heaven both late scratchings at the barriers but at the finish it was Marquand and Prime Star ($18) who held the aces. A $55,000 Classic sale purchase, Prime Star overhauled a brave Bella Nipotina ($8.50) by a half neck with luckless Victorian Larimer Street ($19) another three-quarters of a length away. 2019: Castelvecchio causes boil-over Richard Litt’s perseverance in the tough Sydney training arena has reaped its biggest reward yet with Castelvecchio’s win in the $2 million Inglis Millennium at Warwick Farm. The two-year-old colt signalled his ability when he won at Canterbury on debut but was up against the big stables on Saturday with the Chris Waller-trained Accession ($2.40) and Dawn Passage ($2.70) from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable, dominating the market. On the track it was Castelvecchio ($21) who dominated, charging to the line two lengths ahead of Accession at the end of the 1200m with Dawn Passage another three-quarters of a length third.
