What Gosford Races

Twilight racing heads to Gosford on Friday afternoon for a competitive seven-race program set down for decision. The track is listed as a Soft 5 currently heading into race-day, however, with some clearing forecast ahead, we think it’s likely to find an upgrade into the Good 4 range come start time.

The rail is out +2m between the 1100m-300m markers and true the remainder of the circuit on Friday afternoon, so look for this track to favour horses being positive and pressing forward throughout the card.

The first race is scheduled to get underway at 3:05pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Gosford: Western Front

We head to the penultimate race of the program to find our best bet of the afternoon at Gosford, and we think Western Front has strong chance here first-up for the Annabel Neasham yard. This European import makes his Australian debut on Friday afternoon and has trialled very strongly, particularly his latest effort at Warwick Farm when hard held going to post, only being beaten by 1.45 lengths. This four-year-old comes here lightly raced and starting his campaign over the 1600m looks to show intent from the stable to say Western Front has shown enough since arriving in Australia they want to jag a win early in the preparation. Dylan Gibbons takes the reins here, and despite not being able to claim anymore after outriding his weight penalty, we’re hoping that from gate eight Gibbons can find a spot somewhere mid-field to salute at a nice price with online bookmakers.

Next Best at Gosford: Lara’s Laulet

The opener at Gosford is over the 1200m in maiden company and we think Lara’s Laulet can get her first career win to kick-off the card. This Lonhro filly debuted at Gosford on December 31 and was strong to the line beaten 1.2 lengths behind One Destiny, where she sat behind the leaders and ran into a nice horse on that occasion clearly out nicely on the rest of the field by a length. We think Alysha Collett can utilise barrier-five on Friday and potentially lead here with key rivals like Dreambender and Whisky Wisdom drawn out wide. Provided Lara’s Laulet can produce a similar effort to first-up we can be finding the money early in the card.

Best Value at Gosford: Hail To The Queen

Hail To The Queen is trained by Peter & Paul Snowden and resumes after a 19-week spell. Her form last preparation admittedly doesn’t read well with losses of 6.2 lengths, 3.6 lengths and 5.5 lengths, however, we’re looking to forgive those performance after what we saw at the barrier trials leading into this first-up performance. Her latest trial at Randwick was terrific when going on to score by a nose and clearing out on the respective rivals in that trial effort. James McDonald showed intent on that occasion and clicked Hail To The Queen up to go past the leaders insuring she’s wound up for Friday afternoon. Sam Clipperton knows this mare well after riding last preparation as well as another barrier trial on November 29, so look for Clipperton to be positive form barrier six to find the one-by-one before putting in a career best effort.
