There are many options to make your way out to Morphettville Racecourse with the most prominent being to take a Taxi or Uber to the track, as there is a Taxi Rank available to take patrons to and from the course. The Taxi rank is located in the Members’ Car Park and these run throughout the day of any race meeting. If you’d prefer to drive yourself to the track from the Central Business District in Adelaide, it’s a relatively simple drive. Just take the Anzac Highway heading in the south-west direction for roughly 8.3km, before turning into the Morphett Rd entrance of the racecourse. You can also turn into the Tramway entrance, however, this is more for patrons electing to take buses and trams to the course. Public transport is also strongly recommended way of attending the races, with trams and buses running from the CBD and all around the city. The Adelaide Metro website changes its schedule regular, however, it usually sends a City-Bay tram service via Victoria Square (Adelaide) through to Moseley Square (Glenelg), before stopping at the Tramway entrance adjacent to the racecourse as mentioned previously. The unique part of the Parks course is the running of hurdles and steeplechase races, which feature an off chute start between the 3000m-3350m. Major Races Held At Morphettville The Morphettville course proper hold a total of four Group 1 feature races, which take place in the early part of the year. We’ve got two Group 1 races for the sprinters with The Goodwood (1200m) at open level, while the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) is for the fillies and mares. Two more Group 1’s in the season come for three-year-olds, with both the Australasian Oaks (2000m) specifically for the fillies and the South Australian Derby (2500m) for all three-year-olds. Many other Group quality races are littered throughout the year as well with races such as the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) and the Queen Of The South (1600m). Both drawing strong crowds on course for with great prizemoney on offer for owners, trainers and jockeys through the autumn. One of the key highlights at the Morphettville Racecourse would be Black Caviar’s win of the 2012 edition of the Goodwood, as she went around Australia on a farewell tour, giving punters a chance to see the mighty mare in action.
