Racing heads to the Illawarra region of NSW this Tuesday for a competitive seven-race program out of Kembla Grange Racecourse. We’re set be racing on a track in the Soft to Heavy range on Tuesday afternoon, as the weather heading into the meeting looks very ordinary. The rail moves out +6m between the 1100m to winning post, while the remainder of the rail will be placed in the +4m. This shouldn’t have much of a bias; it’ll be more a case of what horses handle the testing conditions. The first race is set to get underway at 1:15pm AEDT.

Best Bet: Rakomelo

You don’t need to look too far back in the form guide to see why we’ve made Rakomelo the best bet of the afternoon at Kembla Grange on Tuesday. His effort’s as a two-year-old galloper and early three-year-old jump off the page, with performances behind quality horses like – Zou Tiger, Buenos Noches, Imlovinya and Best Of Bordeaux – all going on to either win or be competitive at stakes grade. While his margins are significant, his barrier trials seem to suggest this son of Lonhro is going better than ever and the even money on offer in this maiden company look fair enough. He’s had three barrier trials before engaging in this first-up assignment coming off a 160-day spell, which only bolsters our thought process that team Godolphin are very keen to break the duck for Rakomelo. Senior jockey Sam Clipperton takes the reins here and from barrier six should have no problem slotting in for cover somewhere mid-field before leaving his rivals chasing at the turn. If he handles the conditions, he should be winning this.

Next Best: Western Front

Western Front is a French import for Anabel Neasham that did more than enough on his Australian debut to suggest following him second-up. He came off almost a year away from the track and got well back chasing home Noble Empress at Gosford on January 13 and warrants forgiveness on that effort. Dylan Gibbons was negative on this Dark Angel gelding after missing the start and proceeded to track all the way back to the rear of the field; however, his effort to make up as much ground as he did was sensational with 62kg on his back and now with 59kg, he should be right in this 2000m contest. He’s drawn the perfect gate to find the one-by-one with Brett Prebble hopping aboard and if he accepts for this, rather than go to Canterbury on Wednesday, we’re keen to be with him second-up at a much more suitable trip.

Next Best Again: Call Di

Call Di makes her return to the track after a 108-day spell and will be looking to break her maiden status after tackling some seriously hot races last preparation. Her second performance behind A Lot More Love at Randwick on October 15 was enormous when sneaking rails runs turning for home before running out of time, settling for third. You’d think this daughter of Frankel would be a staying type; however, everything we’ve seen suggests she’s more a sprinter and with two soft barrier trials heading into this, she should be going close to getting her first career win with any luck. This is by no means an easy task first-up but from barrier seven, Regan Bayliss should be able to find a nice spot and produce Call Di late to find the winners enclosure.
