Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 1, 2023 Journalists Share Posted February 1, 2023 What Moonee Valley Races Where Moonee Valley Racing Club – 2 Feehan Ave, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039 When Friday, February 3, 2023 First Race 6:15pm AEDT Visit Ladbrokes Racing returns to Moonee Valley on Friday night with a competitive eight-race program commencing at 6:15pm local time. We look set to kick off on a track rated a Good 4, although with rain forecast in Melbourne on Thursday it will be no surprise if we begin on a Soft 6 or something close to that. With the rail coming out 3m having been set true for last Saturday’s Australia Stakes meeting, we expect the track to play fairly throughout the night. Best Bet at Moonee Valley: Greece Friday nights marks the return of the progressive filly Greece from the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace barn. The three-year-old began her campaign last time in with a dominant four-length victory at Geelong before going on to place behind her smart stablemate Garza Blanca at Cranbourne. She looks to a filly who will relish the unique surroundings of The Valley with her jump, roll forward and kick on the home turn racing tendencies. She gains the services of Mark Zahra and from barrier five, we expect he will take luck out of the equation for this daughter of I Am Invincible over the 1000m scamper. If she finds the rail without needing to do much work inside the first 200m, the race will be over a long way out from home. Best Bet Race 2 – #2 Greece (5) 3yo Filly | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Mark Zahra (58.5kg) $1.75 with Bet365 Next Best at Moonee Valley: Yasuke The way the Chris Waller-trained Yasuke won on debut, he looks to be a colt going places and should be winning nicer races than this Class 1 1600m event he lines up in on Friday night. The three-year-old colt was forced to travel three-wide with no cover on debut at Sandown and the further the race went on, the better he looked. Despite seemingly being flat-footed 400m out, the Maurice colt managed to build through his gears nicely and ultimately proved superior to his rivals in maiden company. That was over 1400m on that day, so the extra 1600m on Friday looks to suit him down to the ground and with Jye McNeil sticking, he looks the good. He cannot afford to have a flat spot at The Valley, but he should benefit greatly from his debut experience and looks set to remain unbeaten through two starts. Next Best Race 6 – #1 Yasuke (9) 3yo Colt | T: Chris Waller | J: Jye McNeil (60kg) $3.10 with Palmerbet Best Value at Moonee Valley: Mr French Put a line through Mr French’s last start at the 3000m here at Moonee Valley and his form reads as one of the best in this BM64 which opens the quaddie. The four-year-old gelding simply did not see out the 3000m and the step back to the 2500m looks to be ideal this time round. The Anacheeva gelding managed to string together a couple of smart victories at Geelong and then Bendigo over 2400m prior to that failure, so we know he will run out the 2500m with little to no hassle. Thomas Stockdale sticks and with his 2kg claim, Mr French gets in well at the weights with just 59.5kg on his back. We expect to see Stockdale settle this bloke midfield with cover and when the runs come 600m out from home, we anticipate Mr French will be the superior stayer and hopefully salute at a nice price with online bookmakers.
