Racing will return to Eagle Farm Racecourse this Saturday with a nine-race program commencing at 12:38pm local time. There hasn’t been any racing on the Eagle Farm track in a month, so we expect to see a fair, perfect surface. The current track rating is a Good 4, and that should be the rating we see on race day. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, which should give every runner their chance in every race.

Best Bet: Vaccine

After being with this four-year-old mare last start and having her go down by the barest of margins, we are going to give Vaccine from the Tony Gollan yard another chance to break through for her first win this time in. This daughter of Not A Single Doubt has finished in the placings at her last two starts, with her last-start second being the better of the two runs, even though she had very little luck and was beaten by a nose on the line by a roughie over 1350m at Doomben on January 21. On Saturday, Gollan has chosen to take his mare to the 1600m for the first time in her career, and we think that he has found the perfect race for her maiden attempt at the journey. There looks to be a lot of speed in this race with most of the speed influences coming from the outside barriers, which should allow her to settle at the rear of the field and get into a rhythm. Ryan Maloney will stick again after taking the reins at her last two starts, and if he can have her working to the outside of the field and running home down the middle of the track in the home straight, we should see this mare finally record a much-deserved win.

Next Best Bet: Tsarina Sophia

The 3YO Benchmark 72 Handicap will be the first leg of the quaddie, and we will be siding with the Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou-trained Tsarina Sophia. This three-year-old filly has been very good throughout her first four starts to her career, winning three of them — including two of three this preparation. Her last-start win at Doomben on January 21 over 1200m was the most impressive of her wins, where she settled in the one-one position and took her time to get going, but in the final 100m she took the lead and started to pull away from her rivals, winning quite comfortably. This daughter of Russian Revolution will step out to the 1400m for the first time in her career, much like many of her rivals, but when you see how strong she was through the line last start, it looks like an ideal distance. Another positive for this girl is that James Orman will stick, and from barrier 11 she should settle in the back half of the field and look to run on again.

Race 6 – Silks#1 Tsarina Sophia (11)

Best Value Bet: Ned’s Gully

We will have to wait until the very last race of the day for our value bet, but hopefully we have a pocketful to have a crack at a nice double-figure runner in the final event. Paul Wallace will bring his four-year-old gelding Ned’s Gully to Eagle Farm to try for back-to-back wins after recording an impressive win at Ipswich on January 18 over 1200m, where he actually beat the current favourite for this race on Saturday by 2.3 lengths. This son of Bel Esprit will step up in grade to a Benchmark 72 Handicap, and in distance to 1300m, but with a lack of speed in the race, we should see Jaden Lloyd push forward and take up the lead. With the aid of Lloyd’s 1.5kg claim, we should see him get across the front of the field before looking to kick clear on the home turn and give the rest of the field something to catch. At $10 with online bookmakers, we are getting a great price for a runner that will give you a good run for your money.

Best Value

Race 9 – Silks#11 Ned’s Gully (12)
