Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 6, 2023 Journalists Share Posted February 6, 2023 What Happy Valley Races Where Happy Valley Racecourse – Wong Nai Chung Rd, Happy Valley, Hong Kong When Wednesday, February 8, 2023 First Race 6:45pm HKT (9:45pm AEDT) Visit Ladbrokes Hong Kong racing heads back to Happy Valley on Wednesday afternoon for a strong nine-race program. We come off an amazing Sunday at Sha Tin with Lucky Sweynesse showing his star quality in the Group 1 Centenary Sprint Cup and Senor Toba finding success in the Group 3 Centenary Vase. We should be in for stunning conditions on Wednesday evening with zero rain in sight for race night. The rail is moved out to the B course for the program and should see horse more towards the speed finding some minor favours if tempo allows. The first race gets underway at 6:45pm HKT (9:45pm AEDT). Best Bet at Happy Valley: Allgreektome Allgreektome looks to be a Happy Valley horse based on his three performances so far in Hong Kong, with his best of the three efforts coming at this course and distance on December 7. James McDonald rode him that night and sat outside the leader from a wide draw to kick clear and only be chased down by noted improver Gold Gold Baby to be beaten just over a length on the line. He then went to Sha Tin and looked to be travelling nicely over the 1200m before falling back plainly into the rear of the field. He’s had a lovely barrier trial since between runs at Happy Valley and beat home Class 1 hopeful later in the night – Nervous Witness – without any riding at all with Zac Purton aboard. He looks to be back on track for trainer David Hayes who has found a nice race for him to jump, kick up and lead, adopting similar tactics to his effort last time at Happy Valley. The booking of Zac Purton means we may have to take a tax with the price from online bookmakers; however, we think it’ll be worth it for the progressive Allgreektome. Best Bet Race 3 – #7 Allgreektome (3) 54yo Gelding | T: David Hayes | J: Zac Purton (58.5kg) Bet with Unibet Next Best at Happy Valley: California Deeply California Deeply is unfortunate not to be looking for four wins on the trot after just missing last start behind Pretty Queen Prawn at this course and distance on January 18. He found trouble checking off heels and was beaten a neck on the winning post. Prior to that he was an eye catching winner on two occasions at Happy Valley from the rear of the field to storm past his rivals to score nicely. Matthew Chadwick knows this horse well with two previous efforts on this gelding by Deep Field with one resulting in his maiden victory at big odds. He’s a get back horse which would traditionally put us off a galloper like him at Happy Valley; however, his class looks to outshine that negative and in a race with plenty of tempo on paper, California Deeply should be set to launch at his opposition late to win again. Next Best Race 4 – #2 California Deeply (7) 5yo Gelding | T: Tony Cruz | J: Matthew Chadwick (60.5kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best Again at Happy Valley: Street Scream Street Scream would’ve found everyone’s blackbook after his Class 2 performances on November 30 and then on January 11, the latter being a clear forgive. He missed the start significantly over the unsuitable 1000m and had no chance turning for home but had the audacity to sprint home powerfully into fifth position just under two-lengths off Handsome Bo Bo. He now comes back into Class 3 where he had three wins in a row, all of them in relatively dominant fashion. This Street Boss gelding has been well placed by trainer Tony Cruz and should be going very close again with an ideal drawn to boot. If Vincent Ho can get Street Scream to jump this time, his class should come to the floor and find the winners enclosure for the sixth time in his career. Next Best Again Race 6 – #1 Street Scream (3) 6yo Gelding | T: Tony Cruz | J: Vincent Ho (61kg) Bet with Ladbrokes Best Value at Happy Valley: Cheer For South Keep an eye on the opening price for this first starter by the name of Cheer For South. We’re hopeful this unraced gelding by Deep Field can sneak under the radar of online betting sites when markets open. His barrier trials have been terrific in particular his latest at Happy Valle on January 28. He pinged the lids and was hard held going to the line in that jump out and looks very fit with three total trials under his belt. We get Zac Purton on board and we expect him to produce a similar pattern to the trial efforts. He’ll jump from the wide barrier and cut across to the rail and if he’s got anything left in the tank first-up kick away from his opposition.
