First Race 2:20pm AEDT

Racing heads to Warwick Farm Racecourse on Wednesday afternoon for a competitive seven-race program set down for decision. The track is currently listed as a Good 4; however, there is some light rain expected in the lead up to race-day, so there’s a slight possibility we end up on a Soft 5 surface. The rail is moved out +3m the entire circuit for the meeting which could see runners up on speed find it a little bit more favourable. The first race is scheduled to get underway at 2:20pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Warwick Farm: Handsome

Handsome is trained out of the Kris Lees yard and looks ready to be peaking over a more suitable trip this preparation. This European import has had three Australian starts and secured his first win at the country races at Taree producing a dominant effort against very moderate opposition. He won by a staggering 8 lengths on the line and was only going away form his rivals that day and while it was clearly a soft Class 1 & Maiden grade kill, it was still impressive to the eye and clock. He then found himself in Saturday company behind Thalassophile at Rosehill on January 28, getting well out of his ground powering to the line to go down 3.3 lengths. It was an effort that suggested this son of Kodiac will only get better with more distance to travel, so the 2200m here looks ideal to see Handsome peak for a third career victory. Our confidence is only solidified with the booking of James McDonald on Wednesday and from barrier four should be finding a perfect run in the top half of the field to score.

Next Best at Warwick Farm: Lomandra

We’re taking Lomandra on trust here for the Hawkes team on Wednesday afternoon, as her debut performance was simply too bad to be true. She had her debut performance at Caulfield in the Quezette Stakes on August 13 and was very disappointing after her barrier trials suggested she was wound up nicely to produce and strong effort. The market suggested she would run boldly as well, going $26 into $15 with online bookmakers on that occasion. We’re going to say it was more of an instances of not running well on that way of racing, with all her trials coming in Sydney running on clockwise circuits. She’s first up now after a 178-day spell with another eye-catching barrier trial effort at Rosehill indicating she’s ready to go here. The clear danger in this race to us in the top weight – Perielle – for team Godolphin; however, with a 4kg swing on our key rival and a better price to boot, we’re willing to take a chance on this daughter of Not A Single Doubt.

Best Value at Warwick Farm: Sunrise Ruby

Sunrise Ruby makes her return to racing on Wednesday afternoon and look a great bet in a competitive BM72 for the mares. Her form from last preparation jumps off the page with the highlight being an attempt at Listed level behind Meg in the Mona Lisa Stakes on September 2. She run around mid-field 2.5 lengths off the eventual winner and then disappointed subsequently in a small field at Warwick Farm on October 3. We put that effort down to the small field and lack of tempo over the 1400m. She’s now first-up after a tick-over trial at Wagga Wagga on February 1 and looks to be fit and ready to make a statement on return. With five starts for two wins and another minor placing when resuming, Sunrise Ruby is always best to find when fresh and she gets a perfect set up on Wednesday. Tyler Schiller takes the reins and with Sunrise Ruby only giving 4.5kg to the bottom weight, looks a cracking each-way bet.
