This Thursday evening, the Pakenham Racing Club will host a competitive eight-race program with two more heats of the Futures Stars series to be run and won. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with fine weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, we should be racing on Good 4. The rail will be in the +4m position for the entire circuit and the first race will jump at 5:45pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Pakenham: Von Hauke

The first of the Future Stars Maiden Plate races will feature the Cliff Brown-trained Von Hauke who will be trying to win his way into the Future Stars final for the second time, after running second on debut in one of the heats on January 25 when on debut. This lightly race three-year-old colt started his career with a nice second behind Dante’s Peak over 1200m, where he started as the online betting sites favourite. However, from barrier nine this son of Savabeel was made to travel four-wide without cover and didn’t look to travel great, but still showed his quality to stick on and go down by a length. Jamie Kah has chosen to stick with this colt after riding him on debut and the fact that she sticks and he has drawn a much better barrier (4), should see him get every chance on Thursday evening. If Kah can settle this guy just off the pace and get clear air in the final 300m, he should be hitting the front in the concluding stages and hopefully breaking his maiden.

Next Best at Pakenham: Aminikii

After such a strong win last start, it is hard to go past the Jason Warren-trained Aminikii on Thursday evening at Pakenham in the second leg of the quaddie. This son of Oamaru Force was very impressive last start, as he settled second-last in front of the second-favourite and gave the leaders at least four lengths on the home turn, before lengthening nicely to go straight by the leaders and run away with an easy three length victory. On Thursday, he returns to the scene of the crime at the same track and distance in a race that seems weaker than his last start. A big plus for this gelding is that Ethan Brown has chosen to stick with him, which indicates to us that he is in great form and he will be there to win again. From barrier three, Brown will have the option to settle midfield or just worse than midfield, to try and repeat the dose and record back-to-back wins on this gelding.

Best Value at Pakenham: Signal

We are happy to be playing in both of the Future Stars Heats on Thursday evening, where we will be siding with Signal from the Matt Laurie yard who looks to be great value at double-figures with online bookmakers. This four-year-old gelding looked to have his maiden ticked off when first-up last start in the final 100m at Geelong over 1143m on January 13, before he was nabbed in the final 50m by Magnus Red flying home on the inside fence. Now that this son of Danerich gets to 1200m and will be second-up, it seems to be now or never for this gelding after running four placings from his first seven starts. Ben Melham will jump onboard for his first ride on the gelding and with his versatile racing pattern barrier 12 doesn’t look to be much of a disadvantage, as he has shown in the past that he can settle at the rear of the field, on speed or midfield, giving Melham options depending on how he jumps.

Race 5 – silks#4 Signal (12)
