Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 8, 2023 Journalists Share Posted February 8, 2023 What Morphettville Races Where Morphettville Racecourse – 79 Morphett Rd, Morphettville SA 5043 When Saturday, February 11, 2023 First Race 12:17pm ACDT Visit Ladbrokes The South Australian Jockey Club will host another nine-race program out of Morphettville Racecourse this Saturday afternoon, highlighted by the Listed Premier’s Plate (formerly known as the Birthday Cup) for the stayers. The track is currently rated a Good 4 and that is the rating we expect to be racing on for the majority of the day. The rail will be in the +4m position for the entire circuit and the first race will jump at 12:17pm ACDT. Premier’s Plate Tip: Wycliff The feature race of the day will be the $107,250 Listed Premier’s Plate and we will be siding with last years winner of the race, Wycliff. The Danny O’Brien-trained gelding won this race when first-up last year with the benefit of one trial at Geelong over 1500m and O’Brien has chosen to give him the exact same preparation. This time in the six-year-old son of Archipenko was very impressive in his trial win at Geelong over 1500m on January 31 and he looks to be on track to record back-to-back wins in this race in consecutive years. At the back end of his spring preparation this gelding ran third in the Benalla Cup and second in a Benchmark 80 Handicap at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup Carnival. Liam Riordan took the reins in the trial at Geelong and he has chosen to stick with this gelding going to the Premier’s Plate, so that tells us that he is going well. At $13 with online bookmakers, we are more than happy to take the value with the class runner in the race. Premier’s Plate Race 7 – #7 Wycliff (11) 6yo Gelding | T: Danny O’Brien | J: Liam Riordan (54kg) $13 with Ladbrokes Best Bet at Morphettville: Jet Jitsu Our best bet of the day will be the Andrew Bobbin-trained Jet Jitsu who is coming off a very impressive run at Flemington where he finished third, behind Anilla and Allegretta who look to be smart types. This four-year-old gelding has finished in the top three at seven of his last eight starts, including three wins, where has settled at the rear of the field and let down with that customary booming finish he possesses. On Saturday this son of Ajaya will be racing at Morphettville for the second time in his career, with his only other run there resulting in a third place finish over 1200m in a Benchmark 60 Handicap on October 29 last year. Barend Vorster will jump aboard for his first ride on this gelding and his riding style will be perfect for a horse that likes to get back and run on in his races. There looks to be good speed in this race and if Vorster can get to the outside on the home turn, he will blow them away in the final 300m. Best Bet Race 2 – #5 Jet Jitsu (6) 4yo Gelding | T: Andrew Bobbin | J: Barend Vorster (57.5kg) $4 with Unibet Next Best at Morphettville: More Sugar We will have to wait for the last race of the day for one of our better bets of the day, when we will be siding with the Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray-trained More Sugar who was very good late last start over 1600m at Murray Bridge on January 20. This four-year-old mare was taking a heap of ground off the leaders in the final 300m and ended up finishing fifth just three lengths off the winner, Exalted Fire. This son of Winning Rupert has been in very good form in his first racing preparation, recording one win and a second from four starts. After making up lots of ground at all of his last three starts and running through the line strong indicates to us that he is ready to step up to 1800m this Saturday. With Ben Price continuing his strong affiliation with the mare and the aid of his 1.5kg claim, she should settle at the back half of the field and run home down the outside to stake her claim in the concluding stages of the race. Next Best Race 9 – #13 More Sugar (11) 4yo Mare | T: Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray | J: Ben Price (a1.5) (56.5kg) $6 with Neds Best Value at Morphettville: Jaazeb Our value play of the day will be the Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle-trained Jaazeb who has been running well of late, winning three starts back before finishing midfield at his next start and then finishing third last start behind Qeyaady and Larkham. This four-year-old gelding was very strong to the line over the final 200m last start to finish one length third, while putting a space between him and the rest of the field. After carrying 58.5kg last start with the aid of Lachlan Neindorf’s claim, he will only have to carry 56.5kg this Saturday, as he is stepping up in class from a Benchmark 64 Handicap to a Benchmark 68 Handicap this weekend. From barrier five Neindorf should be able to settle a couple of lengths off the leaders and one horse of the rail, which should give this gelding every chance to come off their heels and look the winner in the last 200m of the race. Best Value Race 4 – #8 Jaazeb (5) 4yo Gelding | T: Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle | J: Lachlan Neindorf (a1.5) (58kg) $11 with Palmerbet Saturday quaddie tips for Morphettville Morphettville quadrella selections Saturday, February 11, 2023 3-4-5-10 5-7-8-11 5-6-8-10 5-9-13 Investment: $192 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
