The weekly Friday night program at Moonee Valley is once again upon us. With the rail coming out 3m the entire circuit and the track coming up a Good 4 for racing, we anticipate the track to play evenly throughout the eight-race card, with every runner to get their chance if good enough. We kick off the night of racing at 6:15pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Moonee Valley: Sparring

The Ron Stubbs-trained Sparring was a smart winner at the Moonee Valley 955m on December 16 and looks awfully hard to beat as he returns to the track and trip. The four-year-old gelding has since gone to Randwick and finished midfield in a Saturday Class 2 event in what was arguably a much harder event than this. The four-year-old gelding gains the services of Jamie Kah for the first time and from barrier seven, we expect Kah to have this bloke settled outside the leader throughout the event. With the ability to sprint off a quick speed and coming to this fourth-up this campaign, Sparring looks a clear best bet of the night and should provide a knockout blow.

Best Bet

Race 5 – Silk#3 Sparring (7)

4yo Gelding | T: Ron Stubbs | J: Jamie Kah (61.5kg)

$3.60 with Bet365

Next Best at Moonee Valley: Anilla

Ben & JD Hayes looked to have stumbled across quite a handy sprinter in former Hong Kong galloper Anilla who comes to The Valley chasing a fourth straight win. The five-year-old gelding had to fight on gamely down the Flemington straight on January 20 but showed plenty of heart to keep finding and salute despite suffering from heat stress. The 1200m sprint fourth-up looks to be ideal and aided by Laura Lafferty’s 3kg claim, this son of Valentia gets in perfectly at the weights in BM70 conditions. From barrier six, if Lafferty can have this bloke settled in the one-one, this race could be over a long way out from home. At $5.50 with online betting sites, Anilla looks a great play in the penultimate race on the card.

Next Best

Race 7 – Silk#4 Anilla (6)

5yo Gelding | T: Ben & JD Hayes | J: Laura Lafferty (a3) (61kg)

$5.50 with Palmerbet

Best Value at Moonee Valley: Schiller Effect

We will be looking to strike some value before the quaddie legs when the Robert Hickmott-trained Schiller Effect chases a third straight win when she lines up over the 1514m. The four-year-old mare has strung together consecutive on-pace victories at both Werribee and Kilmore, before gaining her chance here in what looks a winnable BM64. The unique surroundings of The Valley should suit this Flying Artie mare down to the ground and having drawn barrier two under Jack Hill, she should have no issues in finding the front upon settling. She has shown in weaker company she can offer a kick after leading and if she can do so on Friday night, then the $11 on offer with online bookmakers looks a great play.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silk#7 Schiller Effect (2)

4yo Mare | T: Robert Hickmott | J: Jack Hill (59kg)

$11 with Betfair
