Having ticked off multisport’s biggest race, Addington Raceway’s Coast to Coast team insists this is just the start.

For many, the energy sapping trudge from Kumara to New Brighton is a one-off. Not so for Addington’s three lycra wearing adventurers. They have already put their names forward for next year.

“It was such a great experience,” says Addington Raceway’s Chief Executive Brian Thompson, who conquered the event along with Property and Facilities Manager John Denton and IT Manager Andy Ross.

Their combined time for the 238 kilometres was 16 hours 18 minutes 22, placing them a very respectable 58th out of the 102 three-person teams entered. They started the two day event first thing Friday, finishing on Saturday afternoon.

“JD did one of his cycles an hour quicker than he’d previously done in training so that’s a great effort,” says Thompson.

Thompson did the 33k mountain run in 5:41.05 and Ross the 67k kayak down the Waimakariri River in 4:42.55

“We were all pretty happy and we all got to run down the finishing chute together, with Andy wearing his jandals, so that was pretty cool!”

“We would like to thank our support crew and families. Everything chipped in to make it a great weekend.”

The trio entered the race to raise funds for the NZ Horse Ambulance Trust. Donations through their Givealittle page currently stand at $5800. More money is expected and anyone wanting to contribute can do so here

And it seems the team aren’t done yet.

“Andy’s applied for the Longest Day next year and JD and I would be keen to do the team again,” says Thompson.

But with demand exceeding supply they will have to wait on a ballot at the end of the month.

“Let’s hope we get in because now we have personal bests to beat!”
