Harness Racing New Zealand’s Teal Pants campaign is going from strength to strength.

The annual initiative started at the beginning of the month and already $11,000 has been raised, with all proceeds going towards ovarian cancer research.

Yesterday’s Hororata Trotting Club meeting at Methven was a particularly good one. Seven female drivers won races for the cause, with Kirstin Green, one of five Team Teal ambassadors, adding to the tally at Invercargill. The Riverton Trotting Club at Ascot Park had a big emphasis on Team Teal yesterday, which will see the total climb even further.

Money is raised every time a female driver (and their teal pants) win a race, thanks to contributions from HRNZ ($100), clubs ($100) and individual sponsors. Sarah O’Reilly currently leads the way with four wins.

Raffles were also popular at Methven yesterday, raising a further $1200.

The campaign, which started in Australia and has been an annual event in this country since 2018, runs through to the middle of March.

This weekend will see another Team Teal highlight with the running of the Invited Female Drivers Challenge as part of Rangiora’s 75th jubilee meeting on Saturday.
