Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 15, 2023 Journalists Share Posted February 15, 2023 What Moonee Valley Races Where Moonee Valley Racing Club – 2 Feehan Ave, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039 When Friday, February 17, 2023 First Race 6:15pm AEDT Visit Ladbrokes The night racing season at Moonee Valley is set to continue on Friday evening as a competitive eight-race card is set down for decision. The Listed Torney Night Cup headlines the action, with a competitive field of 10 stayers duking it out for the $200,000 on offer. We’re set to be racing on a Good 4 early on, while an upgrade to a Good 3 is expected with warm weather forcasted for Melbourne this week. Racing is set to commence at 6:15pm AEDT, and the rail comes out 5m the entire circuit. Torney Night Cup Tip: Persan The Listed Torney Night Cup has brought together a competitive 10-horse field over the staying trip of 2500m. Despite being disappointing in the Listed Bagot, the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Persan brings an element of class to the event and should take some beating if he is anywhere near his best. The six-year-old gelding does need to lug 60kg on Friday night, so we expect Harry Coffey to take this bloke to the front of the field and dictate terms throughout. He is without a doubt the superior stayer in the field, so look for Coffey to make this for a genuine staying event and go for home 600m out from home. If that is the case, the $3.80 on offer with online bookmakers might just prove to be a crazy price post-race. Torney Night Cup Race 7 – #1 Persan (5) 6yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Harry Coffey (60kg) $3.80 with Betfair Best Bet at Moonee Valley: No Secret The first horse you find in the race book is the Mike Moroney-trained No Secret and following a dominant last start win in similar company, she is a clear best bet of the night. The five-year-old mare relished the blinkers going on for the first time and to bolt in and put 3.75 lengths on her closest rivals at the Moonee Valley 1600m. She returns to the track and trip and retains the services of Blake Shinn for this assignment and despite going up 3kg, this field is no harder and she should simply be winning. If Shinn can have her lobbed midfield with cover, we expect to see No Secret finish over the top of her rivals and bring up a second straight win for the second time in her career. Best Bet Race 1 – #1 No Secret (9) 5yo Mare | T: Mike Moroney | J: Blake Shinn (60.5kg) $3.40 with Bet365 Next Best at Moonee Valley: Watadeel Stepping back from Group 3 company is the Phillip Stokes-trained Watadeel who despite finishing seventh in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes, was only beaten 3.7 lengths by subsequent Group 1 C.F.Orr Stakes winner Jacquinot. That race looks to be a good form reference going forward and considering this bloke was in stronger races than this throughout the spring, he deserves a crack at field like this and looks well placed. He took subsequent Group winner Zoe’s Promise to within a nose at Caulfield on October 12 and over 1600m and second-up from a spell this time round at the mile looks ideal. From barrier 11, Craig Williams will have her settled at the rear, but approaching the home turn if he is within striking distance, Watadeel should prove too hard to hold out. Next Best Race 3 – #11 Watadeel (11) 3yo Gelding | T: Phillip Stokes | J: Craig Williams (56kg) $3.90 with Palmerbet Friday quaddie tips for Moonee Valley Moonee Valley quadrella selections Friday, February 17, 2023 2-4-5-9 2-3-4-7 1-3-5 1-10-11 Investment: $144 for 100% Latest horse racing tips View the full article
