Regan Todd has his home province’s biggest day on the agenda of his Addington winners Cardwell Bay and Holy Hecka.

Todd went two-from-two at Addington on Friday night with the smart three-year-olds who could be aimed at Southland’s Diamonds Day if they keep up their good form.

The trainer admitted he asked a lot of Cardwell Bay in her return to racing, but with a little bit of luck on her side she delivered.

“I was going to trial her but not often you get the chance to race in a $12k maiden fillies and mares race,” Todd said.

“So, we asked a bit of her and we had a bit in our favour getting a nice run and with the favourite galloping.”

“But she did a great job.”

“The Southland Oaks is a bit of a long range plan for her, we thought we would give her a couple of runs in Canterbury before having a go down south.”

Holy Hecka scored earlier on the Addington card in just his second start back from a freshen up.

A handy performer at two, the pacer looks to have come back even better as a three-year-old.

“He has been a nice wee horse, he has come back lot stronger this time in,” Todd said.

“He was a little bit disappointing in his last start last season, so we gave him a freshen up.”

“I have been really happy with him since he’s come back.”

“We will aim him at the next Southern Supremacy heat at Oamaru now.”

Though Todd’s night at Addington was perfect, not everything went to plan for his stable on Friday.

Robbie Close was a late scratching from his driving duties after a minor spill in trackwork.

Todd has reported his stable driver will be back in action quickly.

“He had a bit of a spill but he’s back to work on Monday on light duties and he should be back driving at the races this week coming.”

Both Cardwell Bay and Holy Hecka were excellently handled by Jonny Cox.
