A field of 12 runners will take their place in the $600,000 Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes at Randwick on Saturday afternoon.

Godolphin’s star stallion and reigning Cox Plate champion Anamoe ($1.75) has opened as an odds-on favourite with online bookmakers, as he looks to record his eighth Group 1 victory of his highly decorated career.

With seven of his 11 rivals for the Group 1 feature coming through the Group 2 Apollo Stakes last start, it is expected that most of the field will have taken a lot of benefit out of their fresh runs, including the Godolphin star.

Chris Waller has won 10 of the last 12 Chipping Norton Stakes and he will have a strong hand again in 2023, with his two mares, Hinged ($12) and Fangirl ($9), being the better of his three runners after they rounded out the placings in the Apollo Stakes.

Waller’s third runner will be the 2022 Cox Plate placegetter El Bodegon ($17) who will be having his third start in Australia over what seems to be a distance short of his best at 1600m.

Annabel Neasham will have her ultra-consistent stallions Mo’unga ($11) and Laws Of Indices ($19) engaged, who have a combined eight wins from 48 starts, however, they have amassed well over $2 million in prize money for their connections.

Two interesting accepters for the 1600m event are Knights Order ($35) from the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott yard and Montefilia ($23) from the David Payne stable who will be looking for much further, but could surprise if they get the race run to suit.
