Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted February 27, 2023 Journalists Share Posted February 27, 2023 What Warwick Farm Races Where Warwick Farm Racecourse – Governor Macquarie Dr, Warwick Farm NSW 2170 When Wednesday, March 1, 2023 First Race 1:45pm AEDT Visit Ladbrokes Metropolitan racing heads to Warwick Farm on Wednesday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program. The track is currently listed as Soft, although we aren’t expecting much rain in the lead-up, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for an upgrade into the Good range come Wednesday. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit and the first race gets underway at 1:45pm AEDT. Best Bet: Western Front Annabel Neasham seems to have unearthed a nice staying type with Western Front looking to improve third-up in his first Australian preparation. On January 31 he rounded up his rivals in easy fashion to score a 0.3-length victory, but the win was much more impressive than the margin suggests. It was a small field and had no tempo to sprint off over the 2000m, yet he still picked them up on a heavy deck. He now strips even fitter for the run, and despite the win only being in Class 1 & Maiden company, we’re confident this BM72 race should set up nicely for this son of Dark Angel. Jockey Brett Prebble can sit closer from barrier one this time and stalk the leaders before producing the same turn-of-foot that saw Western Front score last time out. Best Bet Race 5 – #6 Western Front (1) 4yo Gelding | T: Annabel Neasham | J: Brett Prebble (59kg) $4.80 with Palmerbet Next Best: Stanislaus We tipped Stanislaus when he returned on February 14 at Hawkesbury over the 1000m, and while he was very green under Brenton Avdulla, he was also a dominant winner. He elected to sit outside the leader turning for home and ran off the track, but class prevailed as the two-year-old colt went on to win by a comfortable 1.2 lengths. He’s drawn a softer gate this time and we think there’s more tempo on paper, so look for Avdulla to find a sit this time on this son of Exceed And Excel. He should be able to find the one-one, and with race experience on his side compared to most of these, Stanislaus can make it back-to-back wins and even make a late tilt for some bigger prospects in the autumn. This is a classy race and one we can follow with confidence moving forward. Next Best Race 1 – #2 Stanislaus (4) 2yo Colt | T: James Cummings | J: Brenton Avdulla (58kg) $4.40 with Bet365 Next Best Again: Jewellery Jewellery is a filly on the rise this preparation and seems to be putting it together nicely for the Godolphin team. This three-year-old by Lonhro got a much-deserved second win of the campaign at Kembla Grange on January 31 and, based on what we’ve seen, can continue her rise up the grades. She’s been to the barrier trials since in behind Economics on February 21 and it was just to stretch out after being hard held at the back, finishing off strongly to the line. She’s flying and finds another achievable target for James Cummings on Wednesday afternoon. Look for Zac Lloyd to be positive from barrier four and get a better than midfield spot before kicking clear of her rivals turning for home. She’s got plenty of talent and is a very exciting prospect.
