The 46-1 longest shot in a scratched-down field of eight for Saturday's GII Davona Dale S. at Gulfstream Park, DORTH VADER (f, 3, Girvin–Hardcore Candy, by Yonaguska) took the race to heavily favored Red Carpet Ready (Oscar Performance) in earnest in upper stretch and comfortably held a late flourish from 28-1 Guns N' Graces (Gun Runner) to cause a massive boilover. Away in good order from an outside stall, the Florida-bred raced with the early vanguard three off the fence as Red Carpet Ready was ridden positively to take up the running linking up with the track proper. Improving into second as the half-mile went up in :45.06, Dorth Vader had the front-runner in the crosshairs passing the three-sixteenths marker, opened a daylight advantage and went on to score by about four lengths as Guns N' Graces flew home to complete a $1 exacta that returned better than $940. Red Carpet Ready, last-out winner of the GIII Forward Gal S. and trying a mile for the first time, just held on for third. O/B-John Ropes; T-Michael Yates.
