Mark Zahra has given Revolutionary Miss a top steer in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes at Flemington, with the win being her second win of her career after she broke her maiden in the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude in February of 2022.

After running in the Group 2 Light Finger Stakes and Group 1 Surround Stakes at Randwick at her previous two starts this campaign, running fifth both times over 1200m and 1400m, the obvious next step was the 1600m third-up at Flemington.

The eventual runner up Papillon Club and third placegetter Nunthorpe settled outside the winner in the running, leaving Zahra with no choice but to wait for a run to appear between horses and then push the button on his filly.

Jumping as a $3.60 second favourite with online bookmakers, the daughter of Russian Revolution was the strongest runner in the field at the end of 1600m, as she got the better of Papillon Club in the final strides.

Surrounded by a lot of the owners involved in Revolutionary Miss, Peter Snowden spoke post-race about his filly and how happy he was to get another win under her belt.

“She’s a tough filly this,” Snowden said.

“She’s been the bridesmaid on two occasions, and I said earlier she ran second in the Blue Diamond and second in a Group 1 Thousand Guineas, and still not won that feature race.

“To win a Group 2, it means everything to this filly, and I think to these owners.

“She looked the winner a long way but just had nowhere to go, so he (Mark Zahra) had to angle out and get through that tight gap to get to that position, but she was good enough to pick up and get a win.”

Mark Zahra brought up his first winner on Super Saturday at Flemington with the win on Revolutionary Miss, and he spoke post-race.

“Prize money’s not the same, but still happy to get a winner,” Zahra replied when asked it felt good to turn the tables after riding this filly in the Thousand Guineas.

“I had to get her out at the right time and nudge Nunthorpe out of the way and let her show her finishing burst.”
