Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted March 14, 2023 Journalists Share Posted March 14, 2023 What Gosford Races Where The Entertainment Grounds – 4 Racecourse Rd, West Gosford NSW 2250 When Thursday, March 16, 2023 First Race 1:15pm AEDT Visit Ladbrokes Racing heads to the Central Coast on Thursday afternoon as Gosford plays host to a competitive eight-race program from 1:15pm AEDT. We’ve got a Provincial-Midway Championship Qualifier to finish the card as well, worth $150,000 and a spot in the final. We should have nice conditions for racing with minimal rain forecast in the lead-up to the meeting. The track is currently listed as a Good 4 surface and the rail sits in the true position the entire circuit. Provincial-Midway Championship Qualifier: Kayobi Kayobi makes his return in the feature on Thursday afternoon at Gosford, and we think he’s a great bet to finish the program. This guy has never missed the frame in his five starts, with three wins and two second-placings to his name. His latest victory came at BM64 level and this is clearly a much bigger task for this Maurice gelding, but we think he’s up to the challenge. His win was dominant on October 13 to clear out on his rivals with a 1.5-length margin back to second. Sam Kavanagh put him away after that win, and with two outstanding barrier trials leading into this first-up assignment, Kayobi looks ready to peak early in the prep. Brenton Avdulla takes the reins from barrier six and should be finding a forward position with cover; if he does, we’d be shocked if Kayobi wasn’t in the finish. Provincial-Midway Championship Qualifier Race 8 – #10 Kayobi (6) 4yo Gelding | T: Sam Kavanagh | J: Brenton Avdulla (56kg) $5 with Bet365 Best Bet: Free Enterprise Free Enterprise is racing in a 4YO-and-up maiden on Thursday afternoon, looking a strong chance despite first-up disappointment. He missed the start significantly on February 28 and was never in contention from there. He made nice inroads late but still fell well short of the mark, 5.4 lengths off the eventual winner, Idalo. We’re willing to put that down as a glorified barrier trial, so with a fitness run under the belt, Free Enterprise can improve on that effort. This time jockey Chad Schofield will be looking to get this son of Capitalist to jump with vigour from barrier one and lead them the entire way. His trials were impressive prior to the first-up run and we’re happy to take him on those. Best Bet Race 4 – #2 Free Enterprise (1) 4yo Gelding | T: Peter & Paul Snowden | J: Chad Schofield (58kg) $4.80 with Ladbrokes Best Value: Four O’clock Knock Four O’clock Knock will be making his debut on Thursday and looks an intriguing galloper in this 1600m maiden. It looks a nice setup for this son of Sacred Falls and shows intent from the stable, electing to find a race over the mile to kick off the campaign. He’s had two trials, with the second of them over the 1200m at Warwick Farm on March 2; he looked to be travelling evenly to the naked eye before picking up nicely over the last 200m. It was the trial of a horse that seemed to appreciate the further he travelled, so being first-up over the 1600m doesn’t bother us in the slightest. Brad Rawiller hops aboard and from barrier three has plenty of options to find some cover throughout the trip. It’s always difficult to line up a first-starter, but we’re willing to take a chance on this three-year-old.
