Racing will head to Scone this Sunday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program, with the highlight event being the $150,000 Country Championships Wild Card. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with very warm weather forecast across the weekend in New South Wales, we expect to be on a Good track by race day. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit, while racing will kick off at 12:55pm AEDT.

Country Championships Wild Card Tip: Lisztomania

Sunday’s Country Championships Wild Card at Scone will be the last chance for a runner to qualify for the Country Championships Final at Randwick on April 1. Our top tip in the race is the Aiden St Vincent-trained Lisztomania who is coming off a very nice win at Port Macquarie over 1206m on February 5. This four-year-old mare has finished in the top two at both of her starts this preparation, taking her record to two wins and five placings from nine career starts. This daughter of Dream Ahead looks to have the best form lines in this race, as she ran second at Doomben in a Class 3 before her big win last start. Ashley Morgan has ridden this girl at both of her starts this time in and with him sticking on Sunday, it indicates to us that she is in top form and ready to take the step to 1400m third-up. From barrier two, Morgan should be able to settle Lisztomania just off the pace on the outside of runners, and with even luck she will be letting down with that blistering turn of foot to stake her claim in the final 200m.

Best Bet at Scone: Melody Again

We will have to wait until the very last race of the day at Scone for our best bet, with the Scott Singleton-trained Melody Again looking for her second win at her third race start, after going down by the barest of margins at Dubbo over 1212m on March 3 when first-up. This three-year-old filly sat at the rear of the field and flew home but just missed as an odds-on commodity with online bookmakers. At this daughter of Your Song’s only other race start, she was very well backed and gave them a start and a beating, running away with an easy 2.8-length victory on debut. Stepping up in distance to 1400m on Sunday should be a step in the right direction, as she was only warming up at the end of 1200m at her most recent start. Mitchell Bell will be legged aboard this start with his only ride on this girl being her debut win. From barrier two, Melody Again should get a cosy run and not have to do much work, which should give her every chance to run out a strong 1400m and prove too good in the concluding stages of this event.

Next Best at Scone: Kissaki

The Paul Messara-trained Kissaki will make her return to the race track this Sunday in the Maiden Plate over 1000m, with the benefit of a nice trial win over 800m at Newcastle on March 8, which should set her up nicely for her second career start. On debut this daughter of Street Boss finished third behind Pinnace over 900m at Newcastle on June 4 last year, with that filly going on to win two more races in Victoria over the last three months, which is good form for a maiden at Scone. Aaron Bullock will have his first ride on this filly and from barrier 10, we should see Bullock settle near the rear of the field and look to run on like she did on debut. If Bullock can keep Kissaki out of trouble and find the outside of the field in the final 300m, she should be going very close to breaking her maiden at her second career start.
