The weekly Thursday evening meeting at Pakenham Racecourse is set to greet punters once again, with near-perfect conditions forecast. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail in the true position the entire circuit, meaning there will no excuses for fancied runners throughout the night. Racing is set to get underway at 5:45pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Pakenham: Foxhow

The Clint McDonald-trained Foxhow has been racing in tougher maiden events here at Pakenham this campaign, but third-up from a 60-week spell, looks a clear best bet of the night. The four-year-old son of Kermadec has continually hit the line with intent at both starts and despite staying at the 1400m, he is sure to take some holding out. Landers and Chase De Ace will make sure this is a genuinely run seven-furlong event and armed with arguably the best turn of foot, Foxhow looks to have this race firmly in his grasp. Ben Melham will have this bloke within striking distance on the home turn and with a strong finishing sprint, Foxhow should be bringing up his maiden win at start five.

Best Bet

Race 4 – silks#4 Foxhow (8)

4yo Gelding | T: Clint McDonald | J: Ben Melham (59.5kg)

$1.70 with Bet365

Next Best at Pakenham: Captain Pluto

Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young clearly have a high opinion of lightly raced three-year-old Captain Pluto and upon his return, he looks perfectly placed to bring up a second win at his third start. He has not been seen since struggling on a bottomless track at Warwick Farm when chasing home subsequent Group 1 winner Sharp ‘N’ Smart in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes. Thursday night will be the first time he strikes firmer going and considering he will roll forward from barrier seven, we hope Daniel Moor will be able to dictate terms throughout and give his rivals something to gun down. Captain Pluto clearly brings a touch of class to this Class 1 event and looks one of the nicer plays on Thursday night.

Next Best

Race 6 – silks#3 Captain Pluto (7)

3yo Gelding | T: Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young | J: Daniel Moor (59kg)

$3.60 with Neds

Next Best Again at Pakenham: Victorine

We will be hoping the ‘Blue Army’ can strike in the penultimate race on the program when Victorine looks to build on her narrow Bendigo defeat last time out. The three-year-old filly stormed home to just miss on that day behind Dothraki and considering two runs back she was only two-lengths off the smart Marble Arch, she looks to have the right form lines heading into this. From barrier two, look for the in-form Craig Newitt to have this girl settled close to the speed throughout and as long as she avoids traffic in running, Victorine should present great value with online bookmakers in the third leg of the quaddie.

Next Best Again

Race 7 – silks#8 Victorine (2)

3yo Filly | T: James Cummings | J: Craig Newitt (56.5kg)

$3.10 with Betfair
