At her second career start, Bossy Nic for Tony & Calvin McEvoy has put a gap in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes field, after getting a great ride from dual Group 1 winning jockey Dean Holland.

This daughter of Nicconi ran second in the Listed Cinderella Stakes at Morphettville on debut finishing behind Show Royale, and now has gone onto win a Group 3 down the Flemington straight.

After jumping from barrier two, Holland settled his filly behind the leaders on the inside of the track and as the field hit the course proper and he pushed the button, Bossy Nic exploded and ran away from the rest of the field to put two lengths on the field by the 200m mark.

There wasn’t a lot of support around for the winner, as she jumped at $9 with online bookmakers, however, she won like she was an even money chance, recording a dominant 2.5 length victory.

The McEvoy’s have a big day in front of them at Flemington and Calvin McEvoy spoke post-race about their two-year-old fillies’ dominant win.

“It’s very exciting for all the connections and on a big day like today to get a winner is fantastic for the staff,” McEvoy said.

“She’s a filly that’s been very professional, she’s a beautiful type, a muscle-bound filly, and she’s always shown us that she’s a cut above average.

“She put the writing on the wall in Adelaide, with a little bit more luck she probably wins there, and she’s stamped herself a very nice filly today.

“Dean (Holland) is under the impression that she’ll love a little bit further, I think at the moment 1200 is perfect and she showed that today.”

Dean Holland has started his Australian Cup Day in great style and he spoke post-race about his first winner of the day.

“Obviously, it was a little bit further but she was so relaxed last time and she was the same today,” Holland said.

“Once I got on her she went to the gates like an eight-year-old.

“She’s got a really good head on her shoulders.

“The run presented probably 100 metres earlier than I would have liked but I had to take it at that point, if I didn’t I probably would have been blocked in on the fence, so I just tried to take her through her gears.’

“She’s got the Black Type today and she’s going to have a very nice career.”
