Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted March 30, 2023 Journalists Share Posted March 30, 2023 What 2023 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes Where Royal Randwick Racecourse – Alison Rd, Randwick NSW 2031 When Saturday, April 1, 2023 Prizemoney $1,000,000 Distance 1400m Status Group 1 Conditions 2YO Set Weights 2022 winner Fireburn (12) | T: Gary Portelli | J: Brenton Avdulla (54.5kg) Visit Ladbrokes The Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes is the first of four Group 1 races on Saturday afternoon out of Royal Randwick Racecourse and it’s for the two-year-olds. The Golden Slipper form looks the most prominent here with the runner-up, Cylinder, likely to start a short-priced favourite in the race. We see some differing form through Victorian raiders, with Veight and Brave Mead coming off strong wins south of the border. 2023 ATC SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES ODDS It’s no surprise to see Cylinder holds the call for online bookmakers at $2.20 after hitting the line well in the Golden Slipper. Veight ($5.50) is the second favourite after taking out the Melbourne rendition of the Sires’ Produce at Group 2 level, while Don Corleone ($6) and Brave Mead ($9.50) round out the gallopers in single figures. Maharba ($17) has been set for this a long way out, and the same can be said for Cafe Millennium ($17). 2023 ATC SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES SPEED MAP We should be seeing a genuine tempo set with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained Butch Cassidy (3) set to ping the lids from the inside, as will stablemate Bases Loaded on what he’s done in his three career starts. Disneck (5) took up a surprising leading position last time and this should leave the favoured pair, Cylinder (4) and Don Corleone (2), to get the perfect spot in behind the speed. Brave Mead (6) has shown plenty of versatility in the past, so we expect him to be somewhere mid-field. Meanwhile, the likes of Veight (13), Empire Of Japan (11) and Maharba (10) will all be around the back half of the field. Cafe Millennium (8) is the likely horse bring up the rear, as he did in his resounding win in the Pierro Plate. He was flying to the wire to be beaten by 3.2 lengths but lost no admirers in the defeat. Cylinder beat him home fair and square, but we think it may have been a grand final for the beaten favourite, while Don Corleone looks to be finding his peak at 1400m. We could be wrong, but with the juicy price on offer with online betting sites, we are more than happy to be in the Don’s camp. Brave Mead is such an intriguing galloper in this race, and although he’s only a Listed-level winner heading into Group 1 company for the first time, the upside is clear to see. He won eight days ago at Moonee Valley in the St Albans Stakes and cleared out on his rivals by 2.7 lengths on the winning post. It could be a late move by the stable to send him Sydney way, but this son of Brave Smash has been putting his hand up time and time again, so we’ll be backing him to stick on speed for John Allen and give us a bold sight turning for home. No doubt Cylinder is the fair favourite for Godolphin, but at close to even money, we want to take a set against him on Saturday. He got every opportunity to win the Golden Slipper and just ran into one better in the form of Shinzo. We have slight reservations about the 1400m, too. If he runs out the trip, he can easily be the one to prove us wrong. Veight would’ve captured higher consideration provided he drew any kind of barrier, but from 13 on Saturday it looks a tough task for this very progressive two-year-old out of Grunt. He can win this race on prior form, but he’s not a betting prospect for us. 2023 ATC SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES SELECTIONS & BEST BETS Selections: 2 DON CORLEONE 6 BRAVE MEAD 1 CYLINDER 4 VEIGHT $100 betting strategy $70 win #2 Don Corleone @ $6 at Unibet $30 win #6 Brave Mead @ $9.50 at Ladbrokes Latest horse racing news View the full article
