When Thursday, April 6, 2023
First Race 5:30pm AEST

Visit Ladbrokes

Easter Thursday racing heads to Pakenham for a competitive eight-race program, and with a bit of luck we can steer you into a few winners throughout the night. With a decent forecast predicted, we expect to be racing on a Good 4, despite the track being rated a Soft 5 when acceptances dropped. The rail comes out 6m the entire circuit for the meeting commencing at 5:30pm AEST.

Best Bet at Pakenham: Kiko

We do not need to wait long for our best bet on Thursday night when the Jim Conlan-trained Kiko looks to break her maiden at start seven. The three-year-old filly has her hoof on the till having placed at her two starts this campaign, including when nosed out over this track and trip last time out. This daughter of Capitalist easily has the best form lines in the field, and if she replicates her last-start effort, Kiko should prove a class above. From barrier seven, look for Jordan Childs to have the filly parked midfield with cover in the small field, and when asked for an effort, we expect Kiko to finish over the top of her rivals and get that all-important maiden win out of the way.

Best Bet

Race 1 – silks#9 Kiko (7)

3yo Filly | T: Jim Conlan | J: Jordan Childs (56kg)

$2.80 with Bet365

Next Best at Pakenham: Starden Lass

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Starden Lass has been enjoying racing on Thursday nights at Pakenham and seemingly has found her place to bring up a BM64 win. She was smart winner two starts back at the Pakenham 1400m, and when she returned to the track and trip last time out, the Denman mare found one better in a driving go. She draws barrier three under Ben Allen, and considering she should gain the gun run in transit throughout, it is hard to see how this lot get the better of her. She has a nice turn of foot for this grade, and it should be enough for Starden Lass to get the chocolates.

Next Best

Race 7 – silks#4 Starden Lass (3)

6yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Ben Allen (60kg)

$5.50 with Neds

Best Value at Pakenham: Ballynora

The Phillip Stokes-trained Ballynora is a genuine first-up specialist having won twice and placed on another occasion in her four fresh runs. The four-year-old wants a touch further than the 1200m, but considering both her wins when fresh have come at the trip, we’re happy to take the risk on her. Sheridan Clarke’s 1.5kg claim gets the Fastnet Rock mare in with just 59kg on her back, and armed with arguably one of the best finishing sprints in the race, Ballynora looks like she will take a power of beating.

Best Value

Race 8 – silks#1 Ballynora (8)

4yo Mare | T: Phillip Stokes | J: Sheridan Clarke (a1.5) (60.5kg)

$6.50 with Betfair
