With upgrading on the Ellerslie track currently in progress Auckland Thoroughbred Racing are holding an eight-race program at Pukekohe Park on Saturday. The feature races on the card is the Group 1 NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes. The rail comes out 4m the entire circuit for the meeting.

NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes Top Tip – Mustang Valley

Mustang Valley should prove far too strong for her rivals following a last start fifth in last Saturday’s Doncaster Mile at Randwick when only finishing 1.4 lengths behind the winner. She was held-up for a run but once clear came home strongly. On paper she should be winning this race easily and the current odds of $2.80 looks slightly over what she will pay on the day. She finished second in a Group 1 race last season and then won the Group 1 Livamol Classic a week later by five lengths so the quick back-up from last week’s run shouldn’t pose any problems for her.

NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes

Race 7 – Silks #1 Mustang Valley (15)

4yo Mare | T: Andrew Forsman | J: Jonathan Riddell (57kg)

$2.80 with Palmerbet

Best Bet at Pukekohe – Montand

Montand won well at this track last start after getting checked with 450m to run. He was sent out as the $2.60 favourite and came home strongly over the final 200m to score by a neck. He is from the in-form stable of Peter and Dawn Williams and although up in grade here, with Warren Kennedy in the saddle should go close to repeating the dose.

Best Bet

Race 8 – Silks #4 Montand (5)

4yo Gelding | T: Peter & Dawn Williams | J: Warren Kennedy (59kg)

$5.50 with Bet365

Best Value at Pukekohe – Pour The Wine

In race four Pour The Wine can go back-to-back following a last start victory at this track over 1200m when resuming from a spell. This three-year-old filly should strip a lot fitter today and she will appreciate the extra 200m on offer. She has drawn the widest but as she gets back in the running that shouldn’t hinder her winning chances. Warren Kennedy who rode her to win for the Peter and Dawn Williams stable last start is back in the saddle.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silks #8 Pour The Wine (10)

3yo Filly | T: Peter & Dawn Williams | J: Warren Kennedy (55kg)

$7 with Ladbrokes
