The barrier draw for the $1m Race by Grins at Cambridge Raceway on April 14, will be conducted live on SENZ radio.

The draw will be part of a “Trots Talk Special” hosted by Michael Guerin and Greg O’Connor on SENZ at 6pm on Easter Monday.

The head of the Racing Integrity Board Mike Clement will be in the studio to oversee proceedings.

Cambridge Raceway will also tweet the barrier draws as they happen.

To listen to the broadcast, ensure you have the SENZ app downloaded on your phone, or listen via their website address (https://www.sen.com.au/listen-live-nz/)

Unlike last year there will be an emergency drawn in the field so if there is a scratching that slot holder will get another horse to race in their slot.

Last year the Race by Grins had nine, instead of 10 starters, because of the scratching of Pembrook Playboy.

The ten horses for this year’s edition of the The Race by Grins are :

Akuta
B D Joe
Better Eclipse
Copy That
Kango
No Matter Wat
Nicholas Cage
Old Town Road
Self Assured
Triple Eight

At the moment there is limited hospitality available for the big night, with tickets to the Clubhouse bar costing $150 (dinner but not drinks) and $360 to the Skyline (premium all inclusive package).

General admission is about half sold, with hopes that the total attendance on the night will be around 5000.

There will also be a live performance from chart topping Kiwi singer-songwriter Mitch James.

Sales of the Race by Grins sweepstake are also going well, and close on Sunday April 9.

Tickets cost $1000 – there are 2000 in total – with 10 winners to be drawn on April 10.

The winners will be allocated a horse in the race. If it wins you get $50,000, with $20,000 for second, $12,000 for third, $6,000 for fourth and $2000 for fifth to tenth placing.
