Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 14, 2023 Journalists Share Posted April 14, 2023 What Sha Tin Races Where Sha Tin Racecourse – Tai Po Rd, Sha Tin District, Hong Kong When Saturday, April 15, 2023 First Race 1pm HKT (3pm AEST) Visit Ladbrokes We’re in Hong Kong this weekend for a competitive 10-race program at Sha Tin. There are plenty of nice types stepping out, making this a very intriguing card for punters. The rail will be in the C position the entire circuit, which should see some on-speed favours throughout the meeting. Paired with a Good 4 surface, we should be in for a spectacular afternoon with the first race set to get underway at 1pm HKT (3pm AEST). Sha Tin Best Bet: Golden Express Golden Express is a galloper we’ve been keeping a keen eye on since his Hong Kong arrival and his win last time out was nothing short of spectacular. He smashed the clock when going on to score a 1.8-length win and was far too good for his Class 3 rivals. The four-year-old gelding was able to stalk an average tempo and sprinted away with the prize, and now finds himself with a 4kg penalty for his trouble. It shouldn’t be a hindrance as he looks to claim another win on his way to Class 2 company. Barrier six does pose more of tricky scenario for Zac Purton; however, we’ll leave it to him to slot in somewhere better than mid-field before exposing Golden Express’ electric turn-of-foot down the middle of the course. The Chairman’s Trophy Race 4 – #1 Golden Express (6) 4yo Gelding | T: John Size | J: Zac Purton (61kg) Bet with Palmerbet Sha Tin Next Best: Hyper Dragon Ball We were with Hyper Dragon Ball last time out and he gave us a bold sight on March 19. He led them up over this course and distance and only found one better in the form of Mighty Stride, who was able to get the better of Hyper Dragon Ball late in the piece. Although he didn’t win, he showed the quality of a nice horse that can be ridden adaptably, either to lead or take a sit. Now with Zac Purton taking the reins for the first time, we’re keen to see what the master jockey can get out of this intriguing five-year-old by Deep Field. He’s drawn to get a perfect run in transit, and it wouldn’t shock if Purton elected to lead. Hyper Dragon Ball looks set for another strong performance from the Benno Yung stable and we’re keen to be with him. The Chairman’s Trophy Race 8 – #9 Hyper Dragon Ball (1) 5yo Gelding | T: Benno Yung | J: Zac Purton (54kg) Bet with Neds Next Best Again: Happy Together If you backed Happy Together last time out, then you simply need to forgive what unfolded on March 26. He was luckless turning for home behind Ching and the margin of defeat isn’t a good description of the result. He was beaten by 2.3 lengths but should’ve been fighting it out after checking off heels at crucial stage and never got clear until the final 200m. Zac Purton sticks on board this Richard Gibson galloper, and despite drawing barrier 14 we’re confident he can be making a statement in the Sha Tin finale.
