Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 19, 2023 Journalists Share Posted April 19, 2023 What Tamworth Races Where Tamworth Racecourse – Britten Rd, Taminda NSW 2340 When Friday, April 21, 2023 First Race 12:45pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes The Tamworth Cup headlines a terrific eight-race program on Friday afternoon, with the Big Dance qualifier worth $200,000 promising to be an outstanding event. The course is currently listed as a Soft 5; however, with plenty of drying days ahead, we expect the track to find itself in the Good range come race-day. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, with the first race set to get underway at 12:45pm AEST. Tamworth Cup Selection: My Sugar My Sugar will be making his Australian debut for the Danielle Seib yard, and we think can be competitive in this year’s Tamworth Cup. The 1400m feature sets up beautifully for this son of Deep Field with speed drawn all over the map and My Sugar should be able to find a stalking position throughout the journey from barrier six. His best form in Hong Kong was when ridden positively and he finished his campaign in a quality Group 3 race behind Beauty Joy on May 29. He was only beaten by 1.8 lengths and despite being first-up in 326 days, My Sugar has had a strong hit out at the barrier trials over the 1000m at Rosehill on March 13. He ran amongst some nice types and showed enough to suggest he’s worth following into this first-up assignment. Jean Van Overmeire takes the reins, and if he is within striking distance turning for home, My Sugar will give us an each-way shout. Tamworth Cup Race 7 – #4 My Sugar (6) 6yo Gelding | T: Danielle Seib | J: Jean Van Overmeire (57kg) $31 with Bet365 Best Bet: Mirror Queen Mirror Queen is a clear best bet of the afternoon at Tamworth on Friday, and she looks very hard to beat in this 2100m contest. She should be looking for back-to-back wins after finding zero luck at this course and distance on April 4. She got back and checked off heels turning wide on the course while the eventual winner and race rival Kingstar Bullet was able to get the saloon passage up the inside rail to score. All things even we think Mirror Queen would’ve won comfortably and now with much better barrier to allow Mirror Queen to sit handier throughout the 2100m, we’d be surprised if she couldn’t turn the tables. Jean Van Overmeire takes the ride this time, and with tactics to take luck out of the equation Mirror Queen will look the winner a long way out. Best Bet Race 3 – #3 Mirror Queen (2) 4yo Mare | T: Paul Messara | J: Jean Van Overmeire (55kg) $2.25 with Neds Next Best: Mr Wallace It’s been 84 days since we’ve seen Mr Wallace on the track, and with the trainer change from James Cummings to Cody Morgan he finds a much easier race to break his maiden status. For a long time, it seemed Mr Wallace had plenty of ability but continued to run into some quality gallopers, at one stage even finding himself in the Magic Millions Maiden Plate on January 7. He proved he wasn’t too far out of his depth, going down by 1.5 lengths but subsequently disappointed at Warwick Farm on January 26. We haven’t seen this son of Medaglia D’oro since that effort and with Cody Morgan keeping this four-year-old fresh for his resumption must be going well for the new stable. He’ll be ridden positively from barrier seven with Aaron Bullock hopping aboard, and if he gets a cheap sectional or two, Mr Wallace will take a power of beating. Next Best Race 1 – #2 Mr Wallace (7) 4yo Gelding | T: Cody Morgan | J: Aaron Bullock (59kg) $1.35 with Palmerbet Tamworth quadrella selections Friday, April 21, 2023 1-2-12-14 1-4-5-11 1-2-4 1-2-3-4-5 Investment: $240 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
