Doomben will host a nine-race card on Saturday with a pair of Listed contests each worth $160,000.

The Princess Stakes (Race 7) will be run over 1615m and has attracted a full field of 16 with $92,000 in prizemoney going to the winner.

The Currie stable prepares Cottee, who looks to make it three straight with three wins and two placings from five career starts.

She won at Sunshine Coast the past two starts under Angela Jones, who retains the ride.

“Cottee’s going well. She won earlier in the week and did a really good job in winning,” Ben Currie said.

“She’s been a little bit of a surprise packet, to be honest. She came to us from Ciaron Maher’s with not a lot of expectation and she’s gone right through her one preparation now to win.

“The owners were pretty keen to try her in a Listed race and try and get a bit of black type for her, so that’s why she’s nominated there.

“You’ve got a fit horse that’ll run the trip and she is drawn well (1) so she probably lands in the first few and she should run okay.

“They’re not easy to win and there is some tough opposition there.”

The competition is fierce with a quality field that includes the Tony Gollan-trained Madam Odette.

Last seen winning the Toowoomba Guineas in September in a dominant 5.5-length win, she has five career starts for two wins.

“I’ve been really happy with her. This was always the plan with her,” Gollan said.

“I’m hoping to follow out in that filly series.

“She’s venturing out like I expected to so with her I will just keep following that filly route.

“I don’t know if we’ll get right out to the mile and a half or not, but certainly out as far as the mile and a quarter.”

With markets opening the favourite is the Kris Lees-trained Wolverine with Andrew Mallyon booked to ride.

The filly by Tivaci relishes the wet and with the track currently a Soft 5 she would hope for some more rain over the coming days to make conditions perfectly suited (Soft 8:3-3-1).
