Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 21, 2023 Journalists Share Posted April 21, 2023 What Albany Races Where Albany Racing Club – 261 Roberts Rd, Torndirrup WA 6330 When Sunday, April 23, 2023 First Race 1:50pm AWST Visit Ladbrokes The Albany Racing Club will host a small, but competitive seven-race card this Sunday afternoon. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with warm weather and no rain on the forecast for Saturday and Sunday, we expect to be racing on a Good surface for the entire program. The rail will be in the +3m position for the entire circuit, with the racing action set to get underway at 1:50pm AWST. Jericho Cup WA Qualifier Tip – Come Right Back In the $100,000 Jericho Cup WA Qualifier we will be siding with the Adam Durrant-trained Come Right Back, who is coming off a very impressive victory in the Listed Geraldton Cup last weekend. This six-year-old gelding comes into this with superior form, with his last five starts coming in Listed races at Ascot, Pinjarra and Geraldton. This son of Toronado is a seasoned galloper lining up for his 41st start, but like the rest of his rivals, he will be attempting the 3100m for the first time, with the longest race he has contested being the Group 2 Perth Cup over 2400m. Obviously, the distance is a query, and now the weight of 62.5kg seems to be another query; however, Brayden Gaerth’s claim will take 1.5kg off his back. Gaerth will look to settle one horse off the rail and a couple of lengths off the leader to give him the most economical run possible, and if Come Right Back can run the distance, he should be winning. Jericho Cup WA Qualifier Race 6 – #1 Come Right Back (5) 6yo Gelding | T: Adam Durrant | J: Brayden Gaerth (a1.5) (62.5kg) Bet with PlayUp Best Bet at Albany – Divine Mercy Our best bet of the day will come in the Class 2 Handicap over 1600m, where the Steve Wolfe-trained Divine Mercy will be looking to go one better after finishing second over 1900m at this track last start. This four-year-old gelding won first-up over 1300m at Mt Barker before jumping to 1900m, which saw him grind away for second while taking ground off the winner in the final 100m. This son of Mikki Isle has returned a much better horse this preparation and looks ready to add win number three to his career record, dropping back slightly in distance to 1600m on Sunday. The form in this race is quite weak, with only three other runners winning two races and just one winning at 1600m. This gelding will have to carry 60kg again, like he did last start, but in a weaker race and settled in behind the leaders, he should get the run of the race and prove too good in the concluding stages. Best Bet Race 3 – #1 Divine Mercy (2) 4yo Gelding | T: Steve Wolfe | J: Jarrad Noske (60kg) Bet with Unibet Next Best at Albany – Stormy Tawny The Todd Harvey-trained Stormy Tawny will be looking to return to winning ways after finishing sixth last start at Ascot on April 7. Before that, this three-year-old filly kicked off her career with back-to-back wins at York and Pinjarra over 1200m, and now that she steps back to a Class 2 Handicap over 1230m, she appears to be a great bet. This daughter of Oratorio was very good at her first two starts when leading the field up the home turn, before kicking clear and keeping her rivals at bay over the final 100m. At her next start this weekend, she will have to return to those exact same tactics, and with only one other speed influence in the race, she should get the race run to suit her. With the aid of Luke Campbell’s 1.5kg claim, Stormy Tawny will only have to carry 57kg and should be able to bring up win three at her fourth start. Next Best Race 4 – #5 Stormy Tawny (5) 3yo Filly | T: Todd Harvey | J: Luke Campbell (a1.5) (58.5kg) Bet with Palmerbet Sunday quaddie tips for Albany Albany quadrella selections Sunday, April 23, 2023 4-5 1-2-4-7 1-3 1-3-4-8 Investment: $64 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
