Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted April 24, 2023 Journalists Share Posted April 24, 2023 What Ballarat Races Where Ballarat Turf Club – 240 Kennedys Rd, Miners Rest VIC 3352 When Wednesday, April 26, 2023 First Race 1:35pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes The lone Victorian meeting this Wednesday will be held at Ballarat Turf Club, where we have a competitive seven-race card to be run. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, but with no rain on the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, we expect to be racing on a perfect Good surface for the entire program. The rail will be in the +5m position the whole way around, with racing set to kick off at 1:35pm AEST. Best Bet at Ballarat: Gottabesavvy The fourth race is a Benchmark 64 Handicap over 2000m, where we will be siding with last-start winner Gottabesavvy from the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young yard. This three-year-old gelding was a very good winner over 1600m at Pakenham on April 13, where he settled at the rear of the field before rounding them up and gliding on past the leader with ease to record an arrogant 1.25-length victory. This son of Savabeel has raced over 2000m three times in his seven-start career, bringing up one win and one other placing, with his only finish outside the top three coming in the Group 2 Mooney Valley Vase in November last year. Craig Newitt will retain the ride from last start, and if he can have Gottabesavvy settled in the box seat and get him off the rails in the final 300m, he should be winning again. Best Bet Race 4 – #2 Gottabesavvy (1) 3yo Gelding | T: Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young | J: Craig Newitt (61kg) Bet with Ladbrokes Next Best at Ballarat: Field Of Mars The opening race of the day will be a Maiden Plate over 1100m, where the Simon Zahra-trained Field Of Mars will be looking to go one better at his fifth start after back-to-back runner-up finishes at Donald and Pakenham over 1200m. This three-year-old gelding was very good in defeat at his most recent start, leading for 1150m of the 1200m event, only getting run over by Threetimesalady in the final 50m at Pakenham on April 13. Now that this son of Russian Revolution is dropping back to 1100m, at peak fitness and should find a Good track, he looks to get all of the factors in his favour as he aims to break his maiden. Liam Riordan will stick with this gelding after riding last start, and from barrier four he should push forward and take the lead or settle outside the leader. If Riordan finds the solo lead with Field Of Mars, he will be very hard to run down in the concluding stages. Next Best Bet Race 1 – #5 Field Of Mars (4) 3yo Gelding | T: Simon Zahra | J: Liam Riordan (59kg) Bet with Neds Best Value at Ballarat: Sistine Explorer The Andrew Noblet-trained Sistine Explorer will be seeking back-to-back victories, after leading all the way to win her first-up start this preparation over 1100m at Ararat on April 1. Last time out, this daughter of Brazen Beau jumped from barrier six of eight and crossed the field to take the lead before kicking clear on the home turn to win by 2.3 lengths. We expect her to have taken natural improvement off her fresh run now that she will be second-up on Wednesday, and with her staying in the Benchmark 64 Handicap grade, she looks a strong chance once again. Billy Egan will take the ride for her second start this campaign, and from barrier one Sistine Explorer should be able to find the lead, hold the fence, and try to replicate her last-start win.
