Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 1, 2023 Journalists Share Posted May 1, 2023 What Warrnambool Races Where Warrnambool Racing Club – 2-64 Grafton Rd, Warrnambool VIC 3280 When Wednesday, May 3, 2023 First Race 11:20am AEST Visit Ladbrokes The Listed Wangoom Handicap is the headline act on Wednesday’s 10-race program for Day 2 of the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival. With overnight rain forecast on Tuesday and leading into Wednesday morning, it would be no surprise to see us racing on a Soft 7 or Heavy 8 by the time the card kicks off at 11:20am AEST. Wangoom Handicap Top Tip: Frankie Pinot The Listed Wangoom Handicap over 1200m has attracted a strong field of 16 to duke it out for the $200,000 on offer. Having won this race last year, we are happy to side with Frankie Pinot despite needing to lug 60kg on a deteriorating track. The six-year-old gelding beat all bar the in-form Cardinal Gem second-up in the Group 3 Victoria Handicap at Sandown and looks primed to strike third-up from a spell. Any rain that comes will only aid this bloke’s chances, as he has not finished outside of the top two in five goes on Heavy tracks, with three wins. He won this race on a Heavy 10 last year, and even though we may not get those conditions, he will certainly get his hoof into the ground. If he can show the turn of foot he is known for, he looks the one to beat. Wangoom Handicap Race 8 – #1 Frankie Pinot (4) 6yo Gelding | T: Tony & Calvin McEvoy | J: Madison Lloyd (60kg) $11 with Unibet Galleywood Hurdle Top Tip: Blandford Lad Having gotten the better of Saunter Boy and Instigator at Pakenham on April 16, we expect the Peter Gelagotis-trained Blandford Lad will repeat that effort in The Galleywood. The seven-year-old gelding gave his rivals a start on that day, and despite winning by just a half-length, the way he did it was ultra-impressive – even with a significant weight advantage. He goes up 3.5kg from that win, but we expect he will only come on from that performance. Arron Lynch will have this bloke out towards the rear of the field throughout, and if the leaders go too hard, Blandford Lad’s fresh legs will prove beneficial late over the 3200m. Galleywood Hurdle Race 6 – #2 Blandford Lad (7) 7yo Gelding | T: Peter Gelagotis | J: Arron Lynch (69kg) $3.20 with Ladbrokes Best Bet at Warrnambool: Sandy Prince Sandy Prince from the Ben & JD Hayes barn has his hoof on the till with three straight seconds behind him heading to the ‘Bool, but we expect he will get his moment on Wednesday. He is another horse who will relish the wet track, and considering some of his best form comes at the 1400m, we are happy to be with hm. He will gain a gorgeous run in transit under Tom Prebble from barrier six, and the apprentice hoop’s 2kg claim gets him in with 59.5kg on his back. He has a strong turn of foot for this grade, and if he can be saved up for one final effort at the last possible moment, Sandy Prince looks the best way home. Best Bet Race 10 – #3 Sandy Prince (6) 4yo Gelding | T: Ben & JD Hayes | J: Tom Prebble (a2) (61.5kg) $5 with PlayUp Next Best at Warrnambool: Hellara We will be looking to bookend the program as Hellara steps out in the two-year-old race to kick off proceedings. The filly was overpowered late by a smart one at Geelong when first-up from a spell, but her form lines from last campaign look the best of the raced horses. Despite plenty of unknown about the first starters, we know what will get from this girl. She will be up on pace under John Allen, and considering she finished just over a length off Amur last campaign, Hellara looks like she can get us off to a winning start. Next Best Race 1 – #6 Hellara (6) 2yo Filly | T: Danny O’Brien | J: John Allen (57kg) $5 with Neds Best Value at Warrnambool: Outback Jack In the penultimate race of the day, we will be hoping the Lindsey Smith-trained Outback Jack can end a run of outs that stretches back over two years. The five-year-old gelding is first-up after a six-month spell, and despite not winning last campaign, he was as honest as you could hope for with three thirds and two seconds from his five starts. He has two minor placings to his name when fresh, and with a win under his belt at 1700m, we are happy to side with him. Beau Mertens will look to have him settled in the first six from barrier eight, and if he is anywhere near his best, Outback Jack can run a cheeky race at a nice price. Best Value Race 9 – #5 Outback Jack (8) 5yo Gelding | T: Lindsey Smith | J: Beau Mertens (61kg) $11 with Bet365 Wednesday quaddie tips for Warrnambool Warrnambool quadrella selections Wednesday, May 3, 2023 2-3-6-7 1-2-3-6-9 2-4-5-8 3-13 Investment: $160 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
