Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted September 18, 2018 Journalists Share Posted September 18, 2018 Poet’s Word (Ire) (Poet’s Voice {GB}), the highest rated horse in Europe and joint second overall on the Longines World Rankings behind Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}), has suffered an injury and will not be seen in action again this year, mooting a potential appearance in the GI Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs in November. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained 5-year-old has been one of the stories of the season, beating Cracksman (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in the G1 Prince of Wales’s S., before getting the better of stablemate Crystal Ocean (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) in an epic finish to the G1 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth S. His latest start came in the G1 Juddmonte International S. at York, where he was second to Roaring Lion (Kitten’s Joy). Stoute said in a statement, “Poet’s Word has sustained an injury and will not be able to race again this year. His owner, Saeed Suhail, will soon be coming to England and will make a decision on his future.” A regular in the top races, Poet’s Word was second in both the G1 English and G1 Irish Champion S. last season, and began this campaign when runner-up to Hawkbill (Kitten’s Joy) in the G1 Sheema Classic at Meydan in March.
