Daniel Bowman and Dean Yendall have combined with Outlaws Revenge to take out the $200,000 Listed Wangoom Handicap in a stirring edition of the ‘Newmarket of the bush’.

Outlaws Revenge, a son of Reward For Effort, jumped as an equal $5.50 favourite with Chief Altony, however, no one even got close to him in the final 200m as he stormed clear to record a dominant 1.25 length victory.

After taking out the 2023 edition of the 1200m race, Yendall brought up his third success, dedicating his win to his late great mate Dean Holland.

Meanwhile, trainer Daniel Bowman brought up his maiden Wangoom Handicap victory after a run of bad luck and unfortunate events have seen him go winless in the race since its inception.

The win clearly meant a lot for Daniel Bowman, who had only started training the winner a month ago, taking over from SA trainer Ryan Balfour.

“I don’t train jumpers so this and the Cup are the target races and I’ve had shocking luck in this race,” Bowman explained.

“I had the second favourite one year, who got a temp the night before and I scratched Begood Toya Mother.

“I told everyone if it was on a Soft track, I was extremely confident and you know what I am like, I don’t really talk them up too much.

“When it got Heavy it was just unknown, he’d never seen anything like it.”

Dean Yendall had previously ridden Uxorious in 2011 and Handsome Thief in 2018 to success in the race, but was clearly over the moon for his close friend Daniel Bowman.

“When I asked for an effort he gave me everything he had,” Yendall said.

“The last little bit he started to go forward and it was getting a bit hard on this heavy stuff.”

Following the win, Outlaws Revenge is now a $51 chance for the Group 1 Goodwood with online bookmakers for the race on May 20.
