Te Rapa racing preview

What Te Rapa Races
Where Te Rapa Racecourse – 12 Sir Tristram Ave, Hamilton, New Zealand
When Saturday, May 6, 2023
First Race 11:42am NZST

Visit Ladbrokes

The North Island of New Zealand is hosting weekend racing at Te Rapa with nine races carded on what will surely be a heavy track. The first race begins at 11.42am (NZST)

Best Bet at Te Rapa – Solidify

Solidify confirmed his promise with an easy win here last week on a soft track and will only improve from that run. He is backing up quickly but juveniles are always eager to please and this fellow will be no different. He is bred to improve the further he goes and no doubt being from the Rogerson stable he will have some lofty targets ahead of him. The jockey of the season in Ryan Elliot sticks with him and with even luck in the running he should be too good again.

Best Bet

Race 6 – Silks #1 Solidify (5)

2yo Colt | T: Team Rogerson | J: Ryan Elliot (57kg)

$3.20 with Ladbrokes

Next Best at Te Rapa – Wordsworth

Wordsworth found winning form here again last start to improve his record on the track to six wins. He will get his favoured heavy track conditions again and will benefit from a 4kg claim from promising apprentice Triston Moodley who looks like making the grade. The main threat appears to last start winner Lady Koval but with only 1kg more to carry than that mare he should have her measure. He is still on the up and looks poised to repeat the dose.

Next Best

Race 8 – Silks #4 Wordsworth (6)

6yo Gelding | T: Margaret Falconer | J: Triston Moodley (a4) (59kg)

$4.20 with Neds

Best Value at Te Rapa – Forever Young

Forever Young gets one more chance at a price to set the record straight after a disappointing run last start where he looked half a run short. The last time he visited this track he finished fourth in a field that included winners. He will not be too concerned by a wide draw and hopefully can draw cover down the back straight before being presented to let down when given his head. He has been a rather frustrating horse, but gets his chance to crack maidens in a wide open field.

Best Value

Race 2 – Silks #6 Forever Young (15)

4yo Gelding | T: Denise Jeffcoat | J: Joe Kamaruddin (58.5kg)

$19 with Neds
