Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 9, 2023 Journalists Share Posted May 9, 2023 What Pakenham Races Where Pakenham Racing Club – 420 Nar Nar Goon–Longwarry Rd, Tynong VIC 3813 When Thursday, May 11, 2023 First Race 5:15pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes The weekly Thursday night program from Pakenham Racecourse is upon us once again. With plenty of rain in Melbourne’s south-east, we expect the Soft 7 rating to hold true throughout the night, while the rail comes out 8m the entire circuit. The first of eight races will get us underway at 5:15pm AEST. Best Bet at Pakenham: Breaking Ground Our best bet of the night comes up in the opening leg of the quaddie, where the Chris Waller-trained Breaking Ground steps out over 1400m. The three-year-old son of Snitzel has finished third by narrow margins at both of his two starts this preparation and strikes a winnable Class 1 affair on Thursday night. He was gunned down inside the final furlong at Geelong last time out when forced to travel wide without cover, and his start prior he was a good thing licked when thundering home late at Cranbourne over 1200m. The step up to the 1400m third-up looks ideal, and with a well-timed sprint we have no doubt Breaking Ground will be hitting the line hard. Best Bet Race 5 – #2 Breaking Ground (5) 3yo Gelding | T: Chris Waller | J: Jordan Childs (59kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best at Pakenham: Copperfield The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Copperfield has the best record in the race (6: 2-3-1) and will be looking build on that with a strong first-up showing. The five-year-old gelding returns from a 10-month spell, and considering he was racing in tougher company than this, he looks a clear on top selection. In preparation to his resumption, he has won two jumpouts at Cranbourne and did so in impressive style in his last one on a Heavy 8. We know he will handle the conditions, and if Matthew Chadwick can have him in clear air at the right time, Copperfield should simply have a bit of class on his rivals. Next Best Race 6 – #3 Copperfield (5) 5yo Gelding | T: Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) | J: Matthew Chadwick (a2) (61.5kg) Bet with Ladbrokes Next Best Again at Pakenham: The High Priestess We liked what we saw from The High Priestess on her Australian debut at Benalla on April 6 when simply getting too far out of her ground before thundering home late. The run was a ‘back me next time’ type of effort and she gets her chance at Pakenham on Thursday night. She has placed at Group 2 level in New Zealand behind the smart Belle En Rouge back in her juvenile season, and despite still being a maiden after nine starts, she strikes quite the winnable maiden affair. She will have derived great benefit from that Benalla effort, and if John Allen has her in within striking distance on the home turn, The High Priestess looks to have a turn of foot that these maidens will not be able to match. Next Best Again Race 3 – #3 The High Priestess (5) 4yo Mare | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: John Allen (57.5kg) Bet with Betfair Thursday quaddie tips for Pakenham Pakenham quadrella selections Thursday, May 11, 2023 2-8 3-8 2-3-5-8-11-12 1-2-7 Investment: $72 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
