Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 11, 2023 Journalists Share Posted May 11, 2023 What Flemington Races Where Flemington Racecourse – 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington VIC 3031 When Saturday, May 13, 2023 First Race 11:55am AEST Visit Ladbrokes The Listed Andrew Ramsden and Listed Straight Six headline a bumper nine-race program from Flemington on Saturday afternoon. A perfect late-autumn’s day is forecast, so we expect to start on a Good 4 despite the track coming up as a Soft 5 at acceptances. Large fields are the theme of the day, while the rail is back in the true position and racing commences at 11:55am AEST. Andrew Ramsden Top Tip: Lunar Flare Win and you are in to the 2023 Melbourne Cup, that is what is on offer to the winner of the Andrew Ramsden. Despite current Melbourne Cup favourite White Marlin being a $2.30 favourite for Saturday’s event, we simply cannot pass up the price on offer for Grahame Begg’s mare, Lunar Flare. The seven-year-old rarely runs a poor race and if she brings the same sort of effort that saw her win the Group 3 Bart Cummings during the spring, she is in this right up to her neck. There looks to be plenty of speed in the race, which looks set to suit this girl perfectly and from barrier two will gain a gorgeous run in transit throughout. Lunar Flare looks like she will appreciate the 2800m and if there is a chink in White Marlin’s armour, we expect the Flare to light up Flemington on Saturday. Andrew Ramsden Race 7 – #17 Lunar Flare (2) 7yo Mare | T: Grahame Begg | J: Michael Dee (56.5kg) $9 with Ladbrokes The Straight Six Top Tip: D’jumbuck The Straight Six at Listed level is the first of the two Stakes events on Saturday, and it is simply too hard to go past D’jumbuck. The five-year-old gelding was last seen winning impressively at Sandown over subsequent Wangoom Handicap winner Outlaws Revenge and considering he has two wins from as many starts at the Flemington 1200m, his form is just impossible to ignore. He will look to settle on the leaders back throughout and with Blake Shinn partnering him to two wins and a second in their three race starts together, we know we are going to get a gun ride throughout. He has an electric turn of foot and if D’jumbuck is anywhere near his best, then the $3 on offer with online betting sites looks too good to pass up. The Straight Six Race 6 – #4 D’jumbuck (7) 5yo Gelding | T: Brian McGrath | J: Blake Shinn (56.5kg) $3 with Neds Best Bet at Flemington: Altivo Team Hawkes needed a scratching to get Altivo a run on Saturday and they got it early on in the week and he looks a clear best bet of the day on Saturday. The four-year-old gelding has won all three of his career starts and has done so in fine fashion. He resumed from a four-month spell with a dominant 2.75 length victory at Sandown when taking a sit off the speed before powering over the top of his rivals. He looks like he will only appreciate the Flemington mile and as long as Jye McNeil can slot in one off the rail, Altivo has a dynamic turn of foot and should be bringing up a fourth win from as many starts. Best Bet Race 4 – #17 Altivo (9) 4yo Gelding | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Jye McNeil (57kg) $2 with Bet365 Next Best at Flemington: Lounge Bar Rubi We are getting a ridiculous price for the Mark & Levi Kavanagh-trained Lounge Bar Rubi on Saturday in a race that could be his to lose. He does need to carry 60kg, but the three-year-old gelded son of Rubick has strung together four straight wins, including a couple of impressive efforts at Morphettville in recent times. This will be his first look at Flemington under raceday conditions, but the track looks to suit him down to the ground. He will get back upon settling despite drawing barrier two but armed with a strong turn of foot and a will to win like few others, we’re confident Lounge Bar Rubi will handle the big weight and in doing so, salute at a nice price with online bookmakers. Next Best Race 2 – #1 Loung Bar Rubi (2) 3yo Gelding | T: Mark & Levi Kavanagh | J: Joe Bowditch (60kg) $9 with Palmerbet Best Value at Flemington: Star Of Chaos Third-up from a spell over 1400m looks ideal for Star Of Chaos to find herself back into the winners stall on Saturday. The Tony & Calvin McEvoy-trained mare hasn’t won in close to a year, but the mare has shown this campaign a win isn’t too far away. The Zoustar mare wasn’t beaten all that far on April 29 over 1300m at Sandown when leading the field up, only to be overpowered late by Barbie’s Fox. She draws to gain an uncontested lead under Codi Jordan who claims 3kg and with just 53.5kg on her back, Star Of Chaos is going to take some running down and bring up a long overdue win. Best Value Race 3 – #14 Star Of Chaos (8) 4yo Mare | T: Tony & Calvin McEvoy | J: Codi Jordan (a3) (56.5kg) $10 with Betfair Saturday quaddie tips for Flemington Flemington quadrella selections Saturday, May 13, 2023 1-4-5 1-3-10-11-17-18 3-7-8-13 1-2 Investment: $144 for 100% Latest horse racing tips View the full article
