Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 11, 2023 Journalists Share Posted May 11, 2023 Giga Kick continues to firm in his bid at back-to-back Group 1 wins with the gun three-year-old odds-on against the older horses in 2023 Doomben 10,000 betting this weekend. Three-year-old Giga Kick chases back-to-back Group 1 wins over the older horses in Saturday’s 2023 Doomben 10,000. Photo: Steve Hart. The Clayton Douglas-trained Scissor Kick gelding, best known for his $15 million The Everest triumph in the spring, was back in winning form posting a big win last start in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m). There he beat home subsequent three-time A.D. Hollindale Stakes champ Zaaki ahead of his trip to Brisbane on Saturday for the Group 1 $1.5 million Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 (1200m). Giga Kick is right into $1.70 Doomben 10,000 odds at race sponsor [ladbrokes] and looks a hard to beat favourite drawn ideally in gate four with Craig Williams in the saddle. The main danger occupying the second line of Doomben 10,000 betting is fellow three-year-old Aft Cabin ($5) representing trainer James Cummings and the Godolphin stable. James McDonald retains the ride on the last start Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) winner who now takes on an open-age field after his confidence-boosting victory in Sydney. The classy Astern colt, favourite for a host of upcoming winter features, is also drawn well in barrier three looking to be the second three-year-old Doomben 10,000 winner in as many years after the 2022 win by Mazu. The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained reigning Doomben 10,000 champ Mazu also returns looking to go back-to-back in the popular winter sprint for the first time since Apache Cat (2008-09). The now four-year-old son of Maurice comes off a sixth in the All Aged Stakes, but should improve here fit and back to the six furlongs. The latest Doomben 10,000 markets have Mazu at $9, and he is the only other single-figure chance outside of the two well-backed three-year-olds. The 2021 Doomben 10,000 winner Eduardo was an original final acceptor but trainer Joe Pride has withdrawn the veteran after a wide barrier 11 draw and non-suitable speed map. Eduardo is instead likely to be saved for the Group 1 $1 million Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) on May 27. Pride is still in the mix saddling-up his recent Group 1 The Galaxy winning mare Mariamia. The six-year-old daughter of Toronado is a $27 outsider to bounce back and return to winning form on the back of her lead-up fifth on April 1 in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m). Shorter in betting chasing the upset are Cummings’ other runner Vilana ($11) in barrier one with Brad Rawiller aboard the last start Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes winner, $4 million The Quokka winner Overpass ($13) back on the eastern side of the country, and the local Robert Heathcote-trained Prince Of Boom ($17) coming off a third to his stablemate Rothfire in Eagle Farm’s Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m). The Ladbrokes Doomben 10,000 is set to run as Doomben Race 8 at 4:02pm (AEST) as the penultimate event on Saturday’s nine-race card. 2023 Doomben 10,000 Field & Barriers No Last 10 Horse Trainer Jockey Barrier Weight Probable Weight Penalty Hcp Rating 1 12x1406x20 EDUARDO Joseph Pride Nash Rawiller 11 58.5kg 116 2 1x5232x536 MAZU Peter & Paul Snowden Tim Clark 7 58.5kg 113 3 2130x00x56 A CASE OF YOU (IRE) Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) Ben Thompson 9 58.5kg 113 4 57x26690x1 OVERPASS Bjorn Baker Joshua Parr 10 58.5kg 110 5 518x1810x1 VILANA James Cummings Brad Rawiller 1 58.5kg 109 6 110x840x13 PRINCE OF BOOM Robert Heathcote James Orman 5 58.5kg 105 7 15x1334x03 WEONA SMARTONE (NZ) David Vandyke Kyle Wilson-Taylor 6 58.5kg 103 8 x11115x321 GIGA KICK Clayton Douglas Craig Williams 4 57kg 117 9 2121×1541 AFT CABIN James Cummings James McDonald 3 57kg 103 10 1443×11415 MARIAMIA Joseph Pride Tyler Schiller (a) 8 56.5kg 110 11 712x8791x3 CENTREFIRE Chris Munce 2 56.5kg 97 Table Credit: Racing Australia.
