Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 11, 2023 Journalists Share Posted May 11, 2023 What New Plymouth Raceway Races Where New Plymouth Raceway – 12 Sir Tristram Ave, Hamilton, New Zealand When Saturday, May 13, 2023 First Race 12:15pm NZST Visit Ladbrokes The second North Island meeting to be held in New Zealand on Saturday is at New Plymouth where the track conditions are heavy at the moment and will remain that way until the first of eight races kicks off at 12.15pm (NZST) Best Bet at New Plymouth Raceway – Aljay Last years New Zealand Cup winner Aljay has begun his current campaign with a bang and has gone back to back with narrow but comfortable wins, including a big effort fresh up on a good track and then making the most of a good ride to win last time out at Hastings nearly a fortnight ago. He is not too badly off at the weights after a 2kg claim and meets a field that is lacking much current form. He drops back to 1800 metres but with track conditions likely to be very deep it will seem a lot longer and this Kevin Myers-trained galloper doesn’t know how to give in. A hat-trick of wins beckons. Best Bet Race 7 – #1 Aljay (8) 5yo Gelding | T: Kevin Myers | J: Lily Sutherland (a2) (61kg) $2.70 with Ladbrokes Next Best at New Plymouth Raceway – Pow Wow The enigmatic but very handy performer Pow Wow comes out on top in race eight. He showed everyone what he is capable of when romping away with an easy win at Pukekohe last time out in a handy field. He has form on a heavy track and gets on well with Sam Spratt who has travelled South from her Northern base to continue her association with him. He has always promised a lot but has had a few niggles along the way and now that he is four runs into his current campaign he should hold his form. Go again. Next Best Race 8 – #4 Pow Wow (6) 6yo Gelding | T: Tony Devcich | J: Sam Spratt (56.5kg) $3.90 with Neds Best Value at New Plymouth Raceway – Stipulator The lightly tried Stipulator could be at some value come race start time on Saturday and should be nearing her peak third up. She was heavily supported on debut against race winners but blew the start and just went around for practice. She was much better at Woodville last time out and even after making a slow beginning she picked up nicely and after hitting the front at the half she fought on doggedly to hold second place. She gets in light after the 3 kilo claim and hopefully her barrier manners have improved further she can go one better. Best Value Race 2 – #6 Stipulator (8) 2yo Filly | T: Gavin Sharrock | J: Ciel Butler (a3) (55kg) $6 with Neds Saturday quaddie picks for New Plymouth Raceway New Plymouth Raceway quadrella selections Saturday, May 13, 2023 1-4-6 2-3-5 1-3-8 4-7 Investment: $54 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
