Sea the Stars Debutante Impresses At Newbury

Starting at 3-1 for this race which was won by the same stable’s debutante L’Ancresse (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}) in 2002 when the subsequent group 1 performer beat the dam of last year’s winner Magnolia Springs (Ire) (Shamardal), Fashion’s Star (Ire) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) was held up under cover in mid-pack. Coaxed through to gain command with 150 yards to race, the chestnut who was a €100,000 Goffs Orby yearling and €400,000 Arqana Breeze-Up graduate was pushed out by Oisin Murphy to register a comfortable 1 1/4-length success from Roxy Art (Ire) (Dutch Art {GB}). “I wanted her to relax and race the right way round and she travelled very well,” her rider explained. “She was a breeze-up filly and I think Roger [Charlton] has trained that mentality out of her, which is important. She feels like a miler and I’d say she’s nice, but she’s a next year horse physically. She’s a beautiful mover and probably will be better on better ground.” The winner is the first foal out of the useful dam, whose two subsequent foalings have resulted in a yearling full-brother and foal full-sister to Fashion’s Star. The dam is a half-sister to this year’s G1 QEII Cup and G1 Champions & Chater Cup hero Pakistan Star (Ger) (Shamardal) from the illustrious German family of the G1 Preis der Diana and G1 Deutsches Derby winners Next Gina (Ger) (Perugino) and \fs21f1Next Desert (Ire) (Desert Style {Ire}).
