Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 19, 2023 Journalists Share Posted May 19, 2023 What Sandown Lakeside Races Where Sandown Racecourse – 591-659 Princes Hwy, Springvale VIC 3171 When Sunday, May 21, 2023 First Race 12:10pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Jumping fans will be front and centre at Sandown on Sunday afternoon where The Australian Hurdle and The Australian Chase headline proceedings on an eight-race card on the Lakeside circuit. With showers forecast across the weekend in Melbourne south-east, we expect to be racing on a Soft 6, despite the track coming up a Soft 5 at the time of acceptances. The rail returns to the true position for the card commencing at 12:10pm AEST. The Australian Hurdle Top Tip: Saunter Boy Saunter Boy might just well be the best jumper in the country and despite needing to lug 73kg on Sunday, we expect he will get his crowning moment in The Australian Hurdle. He put 2.5 lengths on his rivals in the Galleywood Hurdle at Warrnambool when forced to carry 71kg in a field which is no harder than this and despite needing to lug an extra 2kg, it feels like the ground his rivals need to make up is simply too much. He is a supremely good hurdler and from barrier one, Steven Pateman will have this bloke stalking the lead throughout. Once he is asked for an effort, Saunter Boy should be putting his rivals away with relative ease. The Australian Hurdle Race 5 – #1 Saunter Boy (1) 10yo Gelding | T: Ciaron Maher & David Eustace | J: Steven Pateman (73kg) $1.40 with Neds The Australian Chase Top Tip: Flying Agent Flying Agent is up there with Saunter Boy as one of the best horses over the obstacles. Despite being defeated by race rival Britannicus in the Brierly at Warrnambool, we’re happy to stick with the star steeplechaser on Sunday. He gave Britannicus a 3kg advantage on that day and considering there is just 1kg between them on the weekend, Amy McDonald’s jumper looks perfectly placed at the weights. Look for Lee Horner to take a sit off the speed this time around, having taken up the running at the ‘Bool and with a nice tow into the race expected, Flying Agent should be showing his class late on and walk away with The Australian Chase. The Australian Chase Race 2 – #1 Flying Agent (7) 10yo Gelding | T: Amy McDonald | J: Lee Horner (71kg) $2.90 with Unibet Best Bet at Sandown: Lady In Pink Our best bet of the day comes up in the opening event when the Leon & Troy Corstens-trained Lady In Pink looks to break her maiden at start four. The two-year-old filly was the best of the beaten bunch behind Le Zebra on the Hillside track on May 6 when defeated by under a length. The Pariah filly made up a stack of ground from midfield on that occasion and despite stepping back to 1200m from the 1300m, she is sure to take some beating here. From barrier two, look for Blake Shinn to stalk the leaders wherever they go and considering this girl is armed with a decent turn of foot, Lady In Pink should pack too much for her fellow juveniles. Best Bet Race 1 – #2 Lady In Pink (2) 2yo Filly | T: Leon & Troy Corstens | J: Blake Shinn (57.5kg) $2.20 with Bet365 Next Best at Sandown: Teofilo Star Teofilo Star was one of the better bets at the Warrnambool May Carnival and we expect the five-year-old gelding will prove hard to beat once again on Sunday. This is much harder than the maiden hurdle he contested at the ‘Bool, but we liked what saw and expect he will get the job done. Campbell Rawiller dictated terms perfectly last time out and managed to slip his rivals before the final jump and had his rivals chasing a long way out. We get Rawiller’s 3kg claim once again (which is almost criminal) and in a race where Teofilo Star should gain an uncontested lead, we’re hoping his superior flat ability takes him a long way into this and prove too strong for his rivals late on over 3400m. Next Best Race 4 – #6 Teofilo Star (2) 5yo Gelding | T: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott | J: Campbell Rawiller (a3) (68.5kg) $3.30 with Ladbrokes Sunday quaddie tips for Sandown races Sandown quadrella selections Sunday, May 21, 2023 1 1-2-10-12-13 9-10-12-16 Field Investment: $320 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
