Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 22, 2023 Journalists Share Posted May 22, 2023 What Canterbury Races Where Canterbury Park Racecourse – King St, Canterbury NSW 2193 When Wednesday, May 24, 2023 First Race 12:50pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Metropolitan racing heads to Canterbury Park Racecourse on Wednesday afternoon for a quickfire seven-race program. The rail is out +3m the entire circuit, and a favourable forecast suggests the track should be somewhere in the Good range. The first race is set to get underway at 12:50pm AEST. Best Bet: Bunker Hut The third race at Canterbury Park is a BM64 over the 1250m, and it’s where you’ll find our best bet in the form of the Michael Freedman-trained Bunker Hut. He’s now third-up in the campaign and has impressed since his resumption on April 19, running into second behind Sports Legend at Warwick Farm. The 1100m was too sharp for this son of Savabeel, and he subsequently ran out of his grade in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas on the Sunshine Coast. He wasn’t disgraced there, finishing mid-field in the 1200m feature, and now getting back to a much easier task, we’d be shocked if Bunker Hut wasn’t figuring in the finish. James McDonald takes the reins again after steering him home north of the border, and while he has the tricky barrier nine to overcome in the small field, Bunker Hut should prove too good for this company. Best Bet Race 3 – #2 Bunker Hut (9) 3yo Gelding | T: Michael Freedman | J: James McDonald (60.5kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best: Master Copy The first leg of the quaddie is the staying contest on the card over the 1900m, where we believe Master Copy can find his third career victory. This gelding by Belardo has found some consistent form in his last two starts – particularly his latest effort at Randwick-Kensington on May 10 when running in behind Naval College. He found the perfect stalking position throughout on that occasion but was no match for the winner, who will no doubt be finding some better-quality races moving forward. Master Copy has a similar upside and gets the perfect opportunity to prove it. He draws barrier one to get a soft run in transit, and with the 3kg claim from apprentice hoop Jett Stanley getting him some welcome relief in the weights, Master Copy will get the last crack at the leaders when turning for home. Next Best Race 4 – #3 Master Copy (1) 4yo Gelding | T: John O’Shea | J: Jett Stanley (a3kg) (61kg) Bet with Neds Next Best Again: Principessa Principessa is looking for her second career win, but rest assured she’s much better than her record says. She’s had 14 career starts and although she’s only found the winner’s enclosure once, Principessa has found the frame on another 11 occasions. It would be easy to now consider her a ‘non-winner’, but the situation appears much more complicated than that. She’s a galloper that has found significant trouble in some past attempts and even in her latest run became a victim of circumstance. She ran into Kazou on May 10 at the Randwick-Kensington circuit and was unable to chase on the slow tempo presented by the winner. Principessa still chased home with vigour, finishing off nicely in the closing stages. It’s D-Day material for this daughter of Vadamos and we’re confident she can repay the faith to followers, finally getting a much-deserved win as a reward for consistency.
