First Race 5:15pm AEST

For the final time in the 2022/23 night racing season, we head to Pakenham on Thursday with a small but competitive seven-race program set down for decision. Despite the amount of traffic on the surface, the rail is out just 3m from the 1600m-400m and then true the remainder. With a typical late-autumn day forecast, we expect to be racing on a Soft 7 when the meeting commences at 5:15pm AEST.

Best Bet at Pakenham: Tahlequah

The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained Tahlequah was a smart winner at the Pakenham 1400m on April 20, and despite being five weeks between runs, she simply looks perfectly placed in the final race on the card. The 1400m was a touch short of her best and she still proved too good for her rivals, so we expect the 1600m second-up from a spell will only see her come on with it. She draws barrier two on Thursday, and Jordan Childs will look to stalk main market rival Ferrari Man throughout. With clear air at the top the straight, look for Tahlequah to angle off heels and, with a sharp turn of foot, prove too hard to hold out.

Next Best at Pakenham: Aramco

We are hoping it is a big night for the Price & Kent barn as we expect Aramco will prove too good for his rivals in the opening leg of the quaddie. The four-year-old gelded son of Sea The Moon put 5.5 lengths on his rivals in arrogant fashion at Geelong on December 16 in a race that has produced a couple of subsequent victors. Much like his stablemate Tahlequah, he draws to gain a gorgeous run in transit, sitting in pole position under Blake Shinn. Despite needing to lug 60kg first-up, Aramco looks to be a horse with plenty of ability and should deliver here.

Next Best

Race 4 – silks#2 Aramco (1)

4yo Gelding | T: Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr | J: Blake Shinn (60kg)

$2.80 with Ladbrokes

Next Best Again at Pakenham: Lady Adelaide

The Patrick Payne-trained Lady Adelaide is as honest a mare you could hope for, and despite failing first-up she looks a great play in the second leg of the quaddie. The four-year-old simply did nothing when resuming at Sandown to be beaten close to 10 lengths behind Barbie’s Fox, but this is considerably easier than that assignment. This looks to be her perfect grade (BM70), and if Mark Zahra can take up the running from barrier 10, Lady Adelaide is going to give us a great sight out in front.

Next Best Again

Race 5 – silks#4 Lady Adelaide (10)

4yo Mare | T: Patrick Payne | J: Mark Zahra (59kg)
