Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted May 25, 2023 Journalists Share Posted May 25, 2023 GRV’s Peter Quilty, Gerard Guthrie and Trent Langskaill provide their thoughts on some of the star greyhounds racing in Victoria. Keep an eye on these, they are worth saving in your WatchDog Blackbook! Quilts Fellas, the Sandown Cup Carnival concludes tomorrow night and it is highlighted by the final of the world’s premier distance race, the Group 1 Sportsbet Sandown Cup. Gerard Quilts, Dustin Drew admitted this week that Untapped (Box 1) could be racing for the last time tomorrow night. Can she become the sixth greyhound to win successive Sandown Cups? Trent Cawbourne Magic (Box 2) will be a tough rival, Gerard. The Andy Lord-trained star will be hoping to break through at the top level after placings in two Group 1 events here in Victoria. Quilts Moraine Suzie (Box 3) was runner-up to Cawbourne Magic in their heat. The Brendan Pursell-prepared stayer is eyeing a second Group 1 after her triumph in the Topgun Stayers. Gerard Is this the Group race where Korda (Box 4) prevails? The Jeff Britton-trained Group 1 Bold Trease placegetter has contested three other Group 1 events and is also a Group 3 runner-up. Quilts First Picked (Box 5) is another finalist looking to win a second Group 1. Dual Sandown Cup-winning trainer Rob Britton advised me that “the box draw has made it difficult”. Trent Osprey Athena (Box 6) is building a strong profile with eight wins and 12 minor placings from 27 starts. Could she upset her more fancied rivals for trainer Angela Langton? Gerard Tim Britton could follow in the footsteps of his father, Rob, and train a Sandown Cup winner. Dirt Farmer (Box 7) is in form with four victories in his last seven starts. Quilts Will Zipping Orlando (Box 8) cement his status as Australia’s best stayer? The John Finn-trained stayer has won finals of the Group 1 Association Cup and The 715 in the last two months. Trent If that’s not enough, the country cups queen Kelsey Bale and last Thursday night’s Group 1 Harrison-Dawson winner Amron Boy clash in the Group 3 Bill Collins Showdown. Bring it on!
