Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 1, 2023 Journalists Share Posted June 1, 2023 What Flemington Races Where Flemington Racecourse – 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington VIC 3031 When Saturday, June 3, 2023 First Race 11:50am AEST Visit Ladbrokes Racing returns to Flemington for the first metropolitan meeting of winter in Victoria, with a bumper nine-race program set down for decision. Despite there being no black-type events on the card, there looks to be plenty of good horse flesh going around and, on a track rated a Soft 5, we should see each runner get their chance if good enough. The rail comes out 8m the entire circuit and racing gets underway at 11:50am AEST. Best Bet at Flemington: Grey River In the opening leg of the quaddie, the Jon O’Connor-trained Grey River returns to Flemington after finishing a narrow second in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes at Morphettville on May 20. She was forced to travel wide with no cover on that day and was arguably a good thing beat following the torrid run. Any rain we get will only benefit her chances, but from barrier two under Blake Shinn she’ll be given every conceivable hope. With even luck, Grey River should be bringing up a long-overdue win as she drops down in grade. Best Bet Race 6 – #4 Grey River (2) 3yo Filly | T: Jon O’Connor | J: Blake Shinn (57kg) $3.80 with Bet365 Next Best at Flemington: Ranveer The Matt Laurie-trained Ranveer was the definition of a good thing licked at Mornington on April 22 when first-up after 18 months off the track. The gelded son of Winning Rupert was held up until the final 150m before unleashing a strong turn of foot to go down by a half-length to Fasuto. He sticks in BM70 grade, and considering he already has experience down the Flemington straight — most notably when finishing second behind Profiteer — he is going to take a power of beating. He draws out wide in barrier 16, which is hardly a disadvantage over the 1100m at Flemington. Beau Mertens will be stalking the speed throughout, and with even luck at the right time, Ranveer should prove too classy for this lot. Next Best Race 9 – #4 Ranveer (16) 4yo Gelding | T: Matt Laurie | J: Beau Mertens (61kg) $4 with Palmerbet Best Value at Flemington: Frankie Pinot Frankie Pinot was beaten 3.5 lengths when finishing midfield in The Goodwood last time out and is sure to appreciate the step back in grade. The six-year-old gelding from the Tony & Calvin McEvoy barn has returned in fine style this campaign without winning, but he gets his chance to do so on the weekend. Following Madison Lloyd’s claim, he gets in with just 56kg, so he will hardly know himself with that weight at this level. He is another who will appreciate any rain that may arrive at Flemington, but with a strong finishing burst and a formidable record at 1400m (8: 2-5-1), Frankie Pinot looks a great price to dabble at with online bookmakers. Best Value Race 8 – #3 Frankie Pinot (4) 6yo Gelding | T: Tony & Calvin McEvoy | J: Madison Lloyd (a2) (58kg) $10 with Betfair Saturday quaddie tips for Flemington Flemington quadrella selections Saturday, June 3, 2023 4-7-8 6-8-14-15-18 1-2-3-6 4-13 Investment: $120 for 100% Latest horse racing tips View the full article
