Journalists Wandering Eyes Posted June 5, 2023 Journalists Share Posted June 5, 2023 What Canterbury Races Where Canterbury Park Racecourse – King St, Canterbury NSW 2193 When Wednesday, June 7, 2023 First Race 12:40pm AEST Visit Ladbrokes Racing heads to the south-west of Sydney as Canterbury Park hosts a competitive seven-race program on Wednesday afternoon. The rail is out +6m the entire circuit for the meeting, and a favourable forecast suggests we should be racing on a Good 4 surface. The first race is set to get underway at 12:40pm AEST. Best Bet: Commemorative The opening race at Canterbury is for the two-year-old fillies, and we’re excited by the prospect of Commemorative making her racing debut. She’s trained out of the James Cummings stable, and those that keep a keen eye on barrier trials would have seen two very nice pieces of work by this daughter of I Am Invincible. Her latest jump-out saw her cruise to the wire under her own steam to score by a half-length, and it was an indicator her racing manners are very professional for such an inexperienced galloper. The main danger and likely leader in this race is drawn to her outside in the form of Power Ballard, and we’re hopeful leading hoop James McDonald can stalk her every step of the way on Commemorative. If McDonald can put her in a forward position and within striking distance on the turn, Commemorative will be powering to the line to secure a debut victory. Best Bet Race 1 – #2 Commemorative (6) 2yo Filly | T: James Cummings | J: James McDonald (57.5kg) Bet with Bet365 Next Best: Magic Carpet Magic Carpet hasn’t exactly been a money-spinner for followers after eight appearances and no victories to her name; however, this looks like a terrific opportunity to return the favour for punters. She’s been running into some stiff competition – particularly as a two-year-old coming out of some seriously strong form-lines behind She’s Extreme in the 2022 edition of the Magic Night, and another game effort behind Paris Dior in the Percy Sykes Stakes. She just hasn’t recaptured those heights in her three-year-old campaign, but her barrier trials leading into this first-up assignment suggest she isn’t too far away from finding her best. A 186-day spell seems to have done her wonders, and if she can bring her trial form to race-day, Magic Carpet should be right up to these rivals. Next Best Race 2 – #5 Magic Carpet (5) 3yo Filly | T: James Cummings | J: Sam Clipperton (56kg) Bet with Ladbrokes Next Best Again: Balkans Balkans is another debutant we’ve got an eye on for Godolphin. His trials have been sensational – particularly his latest winning jump-out at Hawkesbury on May 22 where he went on to salute under a stranglehold for jockey Chad Schofield. This time it’ll be Sam Clipperton taking the reins, and from a soft barrier (5) he should have very little trouble finding the one-one position. This son of Lonhro should get every conceivable chance to make his debut a winning one, especially in a race with plenty of other first-starters. Next Best Again Race 3 – #5 Balkans (5) 2yo Colt | T: James Cummings | J: Sam Clipperton (56kg) Bet with Palmerbet Canterbury quadrella selections Wednesday, June 7, 2023 1-2-3 3-4-6-10-11 1-2-4-5-10 3-6-10 Investment: $225 for 100% More horse racing tips View the full article
